Well, this used to be my guilty pleasure but somehow is now just a memory of what used to be. The nostalgia from EP used to hit here (minus the salsa) but the rolled tacos in sauce smacked. Don’t get me wrong, the tacos are still crispy, and the cheese was (never on point) what we all used the when making chicos at home. This time, there wasn’t enough sauce to dip my fries in, it seemed as it was the esencia of sauce. Nostalgia instantly gone. 😩 Drink specials are still special, and I love that you can order a caguama!! I’m hoping this was an off day. I also ordered a burrito to go. When I say I was excited about chile colorado for later, it’d be an understatement. Oooo, I opened that brown bag and brought out this amazingly sized burrito!!! When I unwrapped the foil and unlocked the good, boy it seemed as I had struck back home gold!!! Homemade flour tortilla looking perfectly cooked and the perfect thickness. The chile colorado looking like it was about to slap my face with flavor, and the perfect bite waiting for my (average) Mexican lips!!! First bite in, dry, but you know what it’s the first bite; we haven’t gotten to the deliciousness that awaits. Second bite is going to be what burrito dreams are made of!!!! Well, turns out the second bite was worse than the first, not only was it dry but the thing was made for horses; a straight up salt lick. 😩😩😩 porque dios, PORQUE!!!! I obviamente took a third bite, and I was expecting more potatoes than meat because of the first 2 bites. Pero no, the meat to potato ratio was on point. It was just the flavor and dryness. The rue of the Colorado was way too think in addition to the dry tortilla. I was gravely disappointed. I hope this was a once every so often occurrence because I really want them to be my dirty little calorie secret. We’ll see. El Perrito has awesome service and the owner often comes out to check on tables; I wouldn’t discourage people from visiting because of my experience. I know I’ll be back but I hope this was a fluke.

It's legit. The cooks are awesome. Reasonable prices. Great flavor. It's currently a truck with seating indoors and outdoors. Thank you, cousin, for taking me to El Perrito today. I ordered the red enchiladas. I am from El Paso. I came to Austin in 1985. This is the first time in 38 years of living in Austin that I have had enchiladas in this town that tasted homemade (at a restaurant). What does that mean? It means that the way the sauce was put *inside* the tortilla, plus the type of sauce, and the way it was caramelized on the edges is the way I experienced Mexican-style enchiladas on the border and in Mexico. As my cousin said today, "It's legit." We also had the carne asada fries. Addictive. Would be great drunk food. Worth breaking your low-carb diet. My cousin had the drowned flautas. As anyone from EP know, they are meant to mimic a certain EP franchise. I didn't have any b/c I never cared for that soggy mess. My cousin liked them. Said they were 85% like the EP original. We also got a quesadilla to go. It was a little heavy as the tortilla is fried. I wouldn't order it again b/c it was a little heavy for me. But it was delish. More importantly, the service was great. Those guys saw that we had ordered the quesadillas to go, and waited until we were almost done eating the other stuff to bring it out to us. Really friendly. Very proud of their product. They are EP-natives, which explains why this food is not Tex-mex but more like the real deal northern Mexican style. I'm eager to try the rest of the menu. If it's anything like the enchiladas, I'm gonna be a weekly regular.

I wondered what "El Paso" style was and how it differed from Tex-Mex. I was pleasantly surprised and super happy with my meal. My friend and I came for lunch one day and split an order of the ELP Tacos, Chicken Flautas, Deshebrada Fiesta Nachos, and the Dogstin hot dog. Good lord was that a lot of food... I really liked the flavor and heat level of the ELP tacos. I know some might not enjoy the sauciness of them, but I really liked it. The chicken flautas were nice and crispy with lots of fun toppings like cheese and green sauce. The nachos were a cheesy, hangover killing gut bomb with really nicely cooked meat on top. Finally, I think the Dogstin was my favorite. It is a huge hot dog wrapped in bacon and topped with lots of tasty stuff. I would 100% get the hot dog again. Last but not least, we each had a pineapple agua fresca which is made fresh in house. I was honestly upset that I didn't get the large because it was SOOOOO GOOD. I look forward to coming back to El Perrito and trying more things (and drinking more agua fresca).

The person that brought us our food was asked if the 2 taco orders were the SAME before she gave them to us and placed on the table. My friend didn’t know what 3 taco’s I had ordered? If they were both the same then she knew I’d ordered the same thing that she did. Well they were NOT the same! So almost one taco in my friend said I’m looking at the meat falling out and this, it’s Ground Beef! And I got her Brisket tacos! We kindly told staff what happened the OWNER came to our table. I thought, how nice he is coming over to apologize for the mistake and the inconvenience. Instead we were scolded and Schooled about Food Cost and waste in his restaurant! We all looked at each other in such shock when he just walked away! We were very nice about it, people make mistakes. I switched with my friend and ate my ground beef tacos but I let a friend taste the ones I had and had already eaten one taco. I guess they were upset to have to make 3 tacos! We will never go back. Also I ordered sliced avocados and never got them. It was our first visit and I was so excited😌. My House Margarita was Delicious...
