I was pretty bummed to find out that Austin did not have one of my favourite fast food joints from California...El Pollo Loco! But after a quick google search I found something similar to it called El Pollo Rico, with my hunger for some of that Mexican Grilled Chicken I invited some friends to go try it for our Friday dinner. For $15 you get a whole charcoal roasted chicken, a whole grilled onion, pack of warm corn tortillas, some rice and some amazing beans cooked with steak and jalapenos. The chicken was adequately spiced! (and by that I mean they used a decent amount of salt!), it was also very smokey and moist! I am usually not a big fan of beans but that combination of meat and jalapenos really enhance those beans. The churros at el pollo rico are easily my favourite churros in austin, they have the perfect amount of sugar in them, the churros have a slightly crunch exterior with a very moist interior that is filled with cream. I am a big fan of things with a variance in texture so this churro really satisfied me. Also of the two times I have gotten it, they were steaming hot so you know it is pretty fresh...(The last time I went I had to wait 5 minutes for them...and boy were they hot...) This place is basically a hole in the wall or two holes in a building...that mainly operate a drivethru. They recently opened a sit in area but it is fairly small..Just be warned that this place is basically a hole in wall kind of place...They are usually very quick if you are ordering the half or whole chicken meal unless they are waiting for more chicken to be...
Read moreThis Pollo Rico is a great location to get food from!!! Every time I go, I get what I ordered 98% of the time, and will also always order lots of green sauce on the side.
The green sauce is GREAT for everything Pollo Rico offers or personal dishes you got at the house!!! For me the food is awesome, but the green sauce is the cherry on the top.
Favorite meals I FREQUENTLY get are the 1/2 chicken meal, the chicken taquitos, and the potato with chicken. My wife likes the chicken flautas, and chicken quesadilla. Also we have had the horchata before and that’s really good too!
As far as drive thru times you can expect to be out of here in 5 minutes most of the time, but there are does busy occasions like during prime dinner time where it can take up to 10 minutes to get out of the drive thru.
The staff is usually really nice, and mostly seems to speak Spanish. When ordering I have not had any challenges, and just keep it real simple. Sometimes they will sneak me some free green sauce when I order 3-4 extra on the side!! Much appreciated.
Our only recommended growth is the refried beans. The charro beans they offer are SUPER good, but the refried beans they offer could use some work.
Overall a great location with good food, and great service!!!!!
Thank...
Read moreI freaking love this place. Ask anyone I know. 😆This restaurant is so delicious! Real home cooked meals BUT in the quick to go style! Get the heck outta here Taco Bell move the funk over Taco Cabana... El Pollo is here! I've been coming here for years - one of my favorite dishes is the whole chicken. Yes a whole dang chicken that is so tender and delicious, comes with Spanish rice (not dry!) and barracho beans with a grilled onion, limes and tortillas. My second go to is the Rico bowl your choice of meat with FRESH rice and beans with Pico and corn. 🌽 Mmmmmmmm. I could keep going but I'll spare y'all. Don't forget the green sauce and the horchata! So worth it, so worth the price. Hurry before they realize they could charge more for their quality of service and food. But don't cause I eat there...
