I’ve been to the new South Austin location 3 times now. Took my wife and daughter. I have ordered the $26 Filet Mignon each time. It has been good tasting and prepared correctly each time, however, the cuts have always looked a little off. Thin for a filet, and the meat “grain” looks like meat that has been tenderized with a tenderizing hammer…kinda broken down texture/grain. There just something not right about it. I know, the price is low, so you can only expect so much. But here’s where I’m beginning to think there’s more than meets the eye. Meat Glue, yeah, meat glue…transglutiminase. I can’t say for sure, and restaurants are not obliged to reveal if they use meat glue. But that would certainly explain the “off” qualities I am picking up on. I’m not saying it IS meat glue,. I make no claims whatsoever that it actually is meat that’s bound together…but I don’t think I can order another one and feel good about it. Many chain restaurants use meat glue to clot together stew meat into “filet” steaks. This would explain the thinner cuts and the beat up texture of the steaks. All that being said, I would still go here and order other things from the menu. The atmosphere is really great for a chain. It looks cool inside, and , service and servers have been very good each and every time. The food has always been prepared well, the asparagus is great! Probably a very good place to meet friends for happy hour drinks and appetizers. I may try the Ribs and Flank steak next time…but I won’t be ordering that filet. Oh, and one other weird thing, there is only a revolving door for entry, no regular swing open door. So if your impaired or elderly, this could be downright dangerous. I would not take my Mom here just because of the revolving door. I’m sure there are emergency exits somewhere (I hope there are), because I would hate to see a bunch of people trying to exit at once. It’s a bit strange. Usually there are regular doors to each side of a revolving door. Anyway, every time we have been I’ve been a little amazed that it’s the only way to...
Read moreso I have been a huge fan of 54th street for over 15 years and have always had a great experience at all San Antonio locations, however I live about 3 min from this location and I order carry out A LOT!!(at least once a week) Today we decided to go with my grandparents to eat at the restaurant & for starters the server was off to a good start from the first 5 min but after we ordered our drinks, we didn’t get any of them all service except for water and we asked twice and he said the machine was down the first time but it would be out shortly… well 15-20 min go by and still no drink or APPETIZER so we told him to just take it off the check, which he Then asked if we wanted it to-go and I said no I want off the check Because why am I gonna pay $5.50 for a drink that I cannot even enjoy with my meal & on top of that, we never got our appetizer either (gringo dip with chips) which is crazy because that’s never happened before. So both were taken off the check, but after this encounter, he started being very quick and dismissive with us and was ready to get us out the door.. we had been very respectful the entire time so I don’t understand what that was about. Anyways, it’s time to pay for the bill, I even left him a tip, and after he just walked away from the table did not tell us “Have a good night” “thanks for coming” literally nothing!!!!! Also, I had ordered two kids meals during our visit & only got one apple juice!! Which I was supposed to get two ice creams and two Apple juice. I have a one year-old so I had to take her to the car while my Grandma waited for the ice cream and 2nd apple juice which he only handed her one ice cream!! Which is so ridiculous. I paid for food that I did not get. (1 apple juice and 1 ice cream that comes with the meal)
97% sure The server’s name is chance by the way.
Everything that was missed during our visit -gringo dip with chips strawberry lemonade -sweet tea -unsweet tea -ice...
Read moreOkay wow! 🤩 54th street was my go to spot in San Marcos, TX in college to hang out, because of the happy hour and all around fun, all out atmosphere. Though, now that I’m no longer 22, and living in Austin. I feel like the franchise is growing with me!! This new Austin location is FANCY!! It is upscale and clean, meaning not cluttered. There is nothing wrong with the over the top atmosphere of the original locations, but this location is beautiful and sleek. I can see it doing so well for corporate happy hours, date nights, it has a fantastic patio that has heaters, a fire pit, open air options with retractable ceiling and windows. So freakin awesome! They still have their tried and true menu and ridiculously large draft house menu. Will be making this my new haunt! Also the bartender that assisted me Tanner was an absolute gem of a human! Everyone, that’s greeted me was so nice! The whole staff seem to be very happy and actually care about their job! It’s wonderful to see! Anyway, I could go on and on. It just opened people, come through and help them be the success...
