I used to be a chef at the Fresa's on South 1st and we order out once or twice a month from North Lamar and I took my Mother there this evening for her birthday to the Fresa's @Westlake and the Achiote was not red in color and a small part of it look like it was baked like the rotisserie chicken at HEB and the rest was all charred overcharged all black with the skin coming off and it looked just like the Yucatan Pollo and you weren't able to tell the difference I mean it was all burned in charge and the beans were warm enough but the rice was cold the manager was kind enough to exchange the achiote Pollo for something a little better but it was still way overcharged and not presentable the white meat was very dry luckily the dark meat was not as dry. I was sad because I wish I would have went to the one on South 1st I just didn't want to drive that far because I live closer to Westlake I regret it so much can I ask them to give me the checkand they never came so we have to get up and go to the counter to try to pay and they said that they were going to give my mother a birthday dessert and I said well can we get it to go and they said no you cannot get it to go even after our food was horrible I spent $75 I tipped $15 anyways and they could not give my sweet 80-year-old mother a birthday dessert even after all that I thought that was pretty disrespectful and kind of like teasing her it was supposed to be a celebrate and it was ruined we should have walked out the minute we went in there other than a table of five a family. Very nice atmosphere the drinks were good the queso was good I ordered eloted and one full Achiote combo, one full Yucatan combo because we like having leftovers some of it was delicious the rest is like it's just Charred and black and tasteless . In the restaurant business we have a saying if you wouldn't feed it to your mother don't feed it to the customers it was my mother's birthday and they fed it to us. I've been working this industry for 30 years and I'm not much of a complainer I don't like to but I have never gotten away with giving out bad food and when I go eat and celebration to honor my mother it just what's a waste of money and a waste of an evening and an insult that she couldn't even take the free dessert they were going to offer her they...
Read moreWe ate at the Fresas in Westlake today. When we first looked at the menu we were skeptical. The sun beating down on you inside the restaurant made it extremely hot and uncomfortable next to the window, this is something the manager should pay attention to so customers have the best dining experience. We had to wear our sunglasses the entire time indoors.
HOWEVER.... the food was delicious! So I gave it 5 stars across the board. Guacamole on point, Mexican street corn yummy (it's on the cob). My guy got the Yucatán spicy chicken and said it was delicious. The jalapeño they serve with the chicken was AMAZING! Not sure how they cook it with what type of seasoning but it was yum! I got a salad with shrimp and the seasoning on the shrimp was excellent and cooked to perfection, dressing so good! We ordered churros "to go" and just ate them at home... they are the best we've had in Austin. If you love churros you've got to try them. The jalapeño salsa was also delicious. We were pleasantly surprised. Out the door we spent $80 with tip and no alcohol - we drank water. Overall the young man that served us was very attentive and on point. Again... manager should pay attention to how hot it gets next to the windows so their customers have the best experience and also have normal salt shakers at the table... other than that - you must try this place. We will...
Read moreMy husband and I loved our experience at this Fresa’s location. We actually came into the plaza to grab Subway for lunch but it was closed so we ended up next door and we are SO GLAD we did. It doesn’t look like much from outside the building but as soon as you enter, you are welcomed with a pleasant atmosphere with minimal yet casually elegant furniture and Hispanic hints of decor. The natural lighting that came through the windows and the view of the trees outside topped it off! We got seated at the two tops right next to the big glass window wall (which I loved). Based on the atmosphere, I honestly thought we’d be paying a fortune for our food but turns out it was very affordable. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. We ordered their Yucatán Spice Chicken, Power Bol, and crispy empanadas. Food came out pretty quickly and hot!! Let me tell you, there’s a reason why they specialize in wood-fired grilled chicken— the chicken packed SO MUCH flavor and smokiness. The empanadas were perfectly crisp and my husband said his power bol was great. We left there with full bellies, big smiles, and happy pockets as we had spent less than $50 even with our 20% tip. Service was amazing as well, shoutout to Vincent! We even got to watch some Sunday football on their TVs while we ate. We can’t wait to come back! We can definitely see ourselves becoming regular...
