Finally found Korean-Chinese food in Austin that tastes amazing! Spoke with the owners, charming older couple, and they had started with steak and other foods before adding Korean-Chinese food to the menu. As it was my first time, and I can get steak at most places, opted for the Korean-Chinese menu. Best decision made that evening! Food: we had the “default” order of jjamppong 짬뽕, jjajjangmyeon 짜짱면, and guo bao rou 꿔바로우… fantastic taste and best I’ve had in Austin! People mistake the guo bao ruo with typical tang su yuk 탕수육… I also did… it’s the difference of eating strips of meat versus pounded strips of meat… much more tender and flavorful with the latter… if you don’t want it to be soggy, request the sauce on the side and dip as you eat… the two noodle dishes were outstanding! Black bean noodles were not runny and soupy (like other places) and stuck to the noodles with every slurp… loved it! The seafood noodle soup, oh my, the soup was rich and flavorful with a great finish, I couldn’t stop eating it! My tolerance for spicy food has dropped somewhat, and I found this to be just right, not too spicy actually, which made it that much more nourishing to my soul! Service: friendly and welcoming… easy to speak with and made recommendations to our order… recommendations were spot on and glad we took the advice! Atmosphere: pleasant, calm, with music playing that was not too loud… was very impressed with the playlist!
Oh yeah, they also sell Korean side dishes (banchan 반찬) on the side, nice bonus!
Definitely worth checking out! Me? I am now a regular, as I have now found my go-to Korean-Chinese place in the Austin area! I hope you have as wonderful an...
Read moreMy first time going here was on my birthday. I honestly can't recommend this place enough. They have a great menu for anyone wanting healthy food thats very reasonably priced. I'm basically on a paleo type diet also gluten, dairy and sugar free and still had no problem at all finding a full well rounded meal. The way their menu works is a bit like an ala carte style so have the wait staff talk you through it. Don't worry its simple enough just a little different is all. When we went it was peak dinner hour and sadly not many dinners there so my wife and vowed to get the word out about them because they are such good people who run the place. My wife and I aren't exactly steak fans but the cut my wife got was hands down the best steak we'd ever had. I had the chicken and was not at all disappointed. They plate or present the food in such a fancy way that my wife and I are not use to it made it feel like a very expensive meal but ended up around $45.00 before tip, which I gave to them at least 20% for so cool by the time we left. In fact the owner made a point to come introduce himself and my wife mentioned it was my birthday more in passing than on purpose. He came back to the table with this off menu desert plate made up of fresh fruit, nuts and drizzled with some really tasty sauce just because it was my birthday. That was such an honest and worthy gesture that I had to get the word out about this place. They deserve to suceed so...
Read moreI live nearby and recently noticed that one of the spots in a heavily vacant strip mall had a new restaurant inside. I decided to go check it out today and was definitely not expecting the experience I ended up with! This place has a heavy focus on "healthy" food, which isn't something I generally seek out. Everything I had was great, though! I had the 8 oz sirloin cooked medium and ended up eating that without the provided sauce on the side because the flavor of the meat itself was just so good. It was perfectly cooked, too. I even ate the bit of asparagus served as a garnish and last I'd checked I didn't even like asparagus!
I got the veggie/fruit salad option and everything tasted very fresh. The veggies were well steamed and the fruit was very fresh. I ate every bite of the salad, and discovered I also apparently like brussel sprouts now while I did so.
I got a pot of the jasmine tea to drink and it was pretty good as well. I plan on going back to try other teas and different sauces, and to force myself to try something other than exactly what I had today as the meal.
The service was decent as well. I believe the girl may have been the owner's daughter. She seemed a little shy but I didn't have a single issue with service and she was patient in explaining how to order.
This place is definitely a bit hidden, especially being in such a deserted strip mall, so I really hope they can...
