When it comes to fried chicken at any fast food chain, the keyword to greatness is FRESH. Other keywords like marinated, spicy, clean, service all echo after FRESH. This particular Golden Chick stands above any fast food chicken establishment that I've ever visited under the general title of FRESH.
Now I know that that statement is bold, yet I'm forced to stand by it. And it is only this location that I can. I've tried other locations during my visits traveling to and from Austin or Dallas yet this is the only one that I think of when Golden Chick comes to mind or that I see on TV. And no, I'm not from that little town nor do I know anyone there.
It took a couple of failed stops at other locations to narrow this location of perfection down. Please note that when I travel, I do fried chicken traveling. Something bred in me from a kid when we hit the road. So now as an adult, a bucket of chicken on the road is like getting gas for the car. You can imagine when I pull up to a Golden Chick I can fairly say "Fill Her Up." Yeah...that serious. And for this location, I can say "can I have it made fresh" and the crew, without hesitation, drops my order fresh. There is no attitude, no complaining in a foreign language, just happy friendly faces providing great service. So I patiently wait..which is rare when you are traveling...but for this place...its worth it.
All I see as I write this is slow motion images in my head on biting down on some hot steaming fresh juicy succulent fried marinaded golden finger licking juice dripping down your arms while you're driving at 45 MPH in a 75 MPH zone wrapped in a napkin with crumbs dripping down between your leather seats delicious chicken breast. Aaaahhhhhh...the satisfaction is guaranteed.
This experience should be the next ice bucket challenge, because when you bite down on all that freshness, you simply can't feel nothing but golden little chickens dancing in your stomach and doing the moonwalk down your tongue and into your body. Its real! I challange you all who read this. (Please don't try this at any other location.)
My last visit was about a month ago were I pulled in only 30 minutes after they opened. The chicken they had already made was of course fresh at that time of the morning yet they were more than willing to drop some more for me. I was honored. I would have accepted an excuse not too, but I didn't get one; they were on point and professional about it and I have to thank that entire female crew for representing the Golden Chick empire whom I wish would expand into the Houston marketplace. (Specifically in Cypress ...near my home ...like up the street...and this year ......please...)

So I received instead of 2 pieces of fish I was given about 4 small hard fried fish and once again missing my condiments. We pay for them condiments and now I have a dry salad. I will never go back. I had enough upsetting myself with poor service. Also I refuse to even accept anything free from that location even if you gave it to me!! And it's sad that I can't patronize my local restaurants. But I guess you receive the type of service by the location you live in huh??
This is twice I've frequented this facility, The little old man in the window do not listen to the orders, will read it back properly and still get stuff wrong and I just can't place it on him alone. But he's the last person to look over the order he took. He rushes you out the drive through. He got my order wrong today because he was busy trying to figure out what was going on at Whataburger parking lot because an ambulance was present with cops. I tried calling the facility to speak to a manager. The phone rang it get that it gets busy, but I go to call back and they took the phone off the hook so it goes straight to voice mail. So I will be emailing corporate since I can't get anyone on the phone. Not everyone eats gravy with chicken tenders I asked for honey mustard twice never got it. The first time I went the chicken looked like yesterday chicken refried. Today it looked better but order was still wrong. Had a very simple order and still got it wrong yes mistakes happen. But every time no way people are not paying attention it was not too busy for it to...
Read moreNot sure what happened tonight.. this place usually rocks and consistently surprises me with great service and fresh food open-till-close. Today, was much rather an exception to that "rule"...
3rd person in DT. Waited in DT for 25 minutes, ordered, waited, paid, waited and finally got my food after a total wait of 38 minutes.
I ordered the 3 piece tender combo,. The guys over here got my order correct, but the whole ordeal was already off to an underwhelming start from the wait time. Here is how that went: so they hooked it up--sorta--with eight tenders in my box. Looking good, right? No. The tenders were not fresh, hard to chew and there were large patches of tender that lacked the best part: the crispy outer crispiness of the tender. My side: battered fries --not fully cooked, some near the bottom of the loosely filled bag were very come in the center. The roll was good.
So all in all I definitely think I can write this as my worst Golden Chick experience, which is still far better than what I expect for most-he like Taco Bell, etc. But the staff here consistently sets the bar impossibly high, so now on the slight chance they are having an "off" night it becomes even more apparent when something is going wrong.
Note: I just want to reiterate that normally (and I mean like every other time I've been here) the food and service have been top-notch, a plus, gold star...
