Halal Austin Shawarma — Restaurant in Austin

I was worried about cleanliness just from the placement of the food truck. Only so much they can do being a food truck in a parking lot but maybe get a power washer and clean around the truck every once in awhile?

But that’s a minor grievance. The food is the biggest problem here. I ordered the beef shawarma and it was easily the worst shawarma I’d ever had. I didn’t even eat it. I took it back. I was starving after working all day and still didn’t want it. Besides the fact that it was cold even after we sat and waited, the wrap was totally covered in sauce, like even the outside of the pita. It was soggy to be more specific. I like sauce but please don’t dip the wrap like an ice cream cone.

The beef… what were y’all thinking. It was cut like salami and the meat was not tender at all, it was actually chewy. That meat should be falling apart. It should be hot. And it was like weird mystery meat that was kept in a warming container all day. I spit it out, it was that bad. Rice was over cooked but didn’t taste bad. The baklava was good but oddly enough also soggy? Like yes traditionally it is covered in honey but it was weird that the bottom of it was kinda soggy. It was also pretty small for the price, definitely not worth it. Oh and They also forgot my hummus.

On top of all that, the guy seemed annoyed that I was asking questions. Why is it annoying to ask if the wrap comes with a side? I spent 50$ on bad service and even worse food.

The good news is that there are plenty of other shawarma spots...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the food here! Ever since visiting the Middle East, we have searched for a place that makes anything close to what we ate there. The food was SOO good! This place definitely delivers, and is the closest we’ve found. We have never been to the food truck, so we can’t speak to service or atmosphere, but we order from them (DoorDash) at least once a week.

The reason I gave them 3 stars is for a single reason…the pickles:

When we order, there is always description of pickles. There are never pickles on anything we order (and when we order extra pickles we almost laugh b/c none of the dishes come with them). In Israel I had the best falafel wrap I’ve ever eaten and the pickles were the key factor…

The wraps, bowls, and salads are A-MAZING!!! it’s so good and traditional. I love the food. But, PLEASE, add the pickles!!! I’ll rescind my 3 star and add 2 more if and when you do! And I’ll add 2 more 5 star reviews. Y’all are the best. Just pls add the picked! Okay,...

When I realized I bit into cheap ground beef instead of chicken shawarma that I payed for I called up there to tell him he messed up my order he said he didn’t mess up my order he just gave me beef instead of chicken because he was out of chicken anyways that has to be illegal in the food industry world to not tell me that you’re out of stock of something and just giving me whatever to take my money anyways? That’s insane, Anyways they give you scrambled packaged turkey/ground chicken meat from HEB and packaged lamb slice from Costco this is not real Shawarma they don’t even own a Shawarma skew or Shawarma rotisserie they just give you old packaged meat over old rice with wayy too much cinnamon added!
