Tandoori Lounge + Bar (Indian Cuisine) — Restaurant in Austin

We dined at Tandoori Lounge last night, and while the food was undeniably delicious, our experience was a bit of a mixed bag. Let’s start with the positives: the flavors here are truly on point. The Basmati rice was cooked to perfection, and the rich butter chicken and tikka masala were bursting with flavor. Every dish we tried was well-prepared and satisfying. The naan bread was also a highlight—warm, fluffy, and perfect for soaking up those tasty sauces.

However, a few things left us disappointed. The margarita was a total miss—more like margarita mix on the rocks. For $10, it was not just a bad drink, but a terrible one. To make matters worse, we were charged more for the Mexican Coke than what was listed on the menu. It’s a small thing, but it added to our frustration.

Unfortunately, the service was where the experience really fell flat. The staff seemed disengaged and lacking in basic hospitality. There was little to no personality from anyone we interacted with, and they all appeared annoyed to be there. When we asked simple questions about the menu, we were met with blank stares and mumbling, making it nearly impossible to understand what they were saying. When our food arrived, it was served with no explanation of the spice levels, which was critical since we had multiple preferences at the table. When we inquired, the server vaguely mumbled something about two dishes being hotter, but this was inaccurate, and the person who ordered mild ended up with spicier food.

In the end, I would return for the food because it’s genuinely excellent, but I’d have to seriously debate enduring the lackluster service again. Tandoori Lounge has potential, but they need to step up their game on the service side to match the quality...

I had the absolute pleasure of celebrating New Year’s Eve 2024 at Tandoori Lounge, and it was an experience to remember! From the moment we arrived, the festive ambiance set the stage for a perfect evening. The warm and welcoming décor, combined with lively New Year’s vibes, made it a fantastic place to ring in the new year.

Food:

The menu was a culinary delight, featuring authentic and flavorful Indian dishes. We started with their signature Paneer Tikka and Chicken Malai Kebabs, both cooked to perfection and bursting with smoky, aromatic spices. For the main course, the Butter Chicken and Vegetable Biryani were absolute highlights—rich, creamy, and packed with authentic Indian flavors. The Garlic Naan was soft and fresh, complementing the dishes beautifully.

To wrap up the meal, the Gulab Jamun was the perfect sweet note—a warm, syrupy indulgence that we couldn’t resist.

Service:

The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure our New Year’s celebration was nothing short of perfect. Despite the busy evening, service was prompt, and the team went out of their way to accommodate special requests.

Ambiance:

Tandoori Lounge outdid itself with the New Year’s celebrations. The elegant lighting, festive decorations, and upbeat music created a lively and joyous atmosphere. The countdown to midnight was a highlight, complete with complimentary champagne and cheers all around.

Overall:

Tandoori Lounge delivered an extraordinary dining experience that was perfect for celebrating the start of 2024. A great place to fulfill your indian food craving.

I would have loved to given fove stars all the way across the board. However as with most restaurants the day crew and the night crew are very different.

I first visited this place in person a couple nights ago after a night out. It is open until 3 am and close to few bars I enjoy. The man that served me and my friends at 2 AM named Shamu was excellent very friendly very accommodating giving very sit and stay a while vibes.

I revisited a few days later to pick up my online order around 1 PM and the service was the absolute worst. I was not greeted warmly...

I asked to add drinks to my order still silence. After tapping my card the credit card reader was snatched away before I had the option to tip or close out and I wasn't even offered a receipt.

Which correct me if I'm wrong (which I'm not since I've been a CSA almost all of my life) but you're supposed let the customer close out sign and offered a receipt. I had not tipped on my online order but was trying to put a little extra on when I ordered the drinks.

After this exchange... the man serving me just walked away... no thank you no have a nice day. I asked for a larger plastic bag as I was going to have to carry two of the mango drinks in a cup holder bybsitting them on my passenger floor board without holding them as i drove he refused saying there was no point to that...

I was throughly disappointed and left. The vast difference in service quality was very jarring. I believe some of the day staff needs some training on hos to treat customers. Had this not happened this could have been a 5 star review as I've eaten here countless times via delivery but these were my only 2 in...
