We stopped in for a beer after eating at the food trucks down the road on Rainey Street. We sat out on the front patio. With the sprayer fans going it was very pleasant. There was a guy playing guitar and singing who I really enjoyed. Apparently some of the songs he was singing were popular songs but being an old guy I didn't recognize anything. But my kids did. In fact one of our party actually requested a song which he apparently did. What do I know. I had an hazy IPA on draft. It was local but I don't remember what it was but it was good. I will say they don't have a very extensive draft beer selection. But the local hazy IPA I got was very good.

We were attracted to this bar because of the amazing live music. Good vocals and a big-screen with the game on? Unbeatable. Things you should know: I. SERVICE Friendly & clean ~ the staff will offer to take your glasses if they see they're empty so they don't stack up on the table. Also, they have live music 7 days a week & a big screen TV on the front lawn to watch some sports. My man would live here if he could lol II. QUALITY Eh, the moscow mule was wayyy too sweet for my taste. But that's just my preference. III. CAPACITY Slim amount of evening seating that fills up as the night progresses.

Idle Hands was the perfect venue for our private event. The backyard area is a little oasis set away from the chaos on Rainey Street and can accommodate up to 70 people (we had around 50 and there was room for plenty more). We had several custom requests, all of which Idle Hands was able to accommodate. During the event, Gabriel helped ensure our guests got all the food and drink their hearts desired. He also helped ensure the space was kept private from any random wanderers. . If you're considering a private event on Rainey Street, you're in good hands with Idle Hands :)

Was looking for NADC burgers and didn’t realize this establishment that it is inside of (idle hands) was a bar (I don’t go clubbing/bar hopping and this was in the afternoon. So it didn’t look like a bar and I just didn’t know), walked in a little confused on where to sit or order, see a big Hispanic dude (staff of Idle hands) and I go “Hi, um..” (big smile on my face, friendly) and the guy cuts me off and yells “IDs!” Not friendly at all. Showed IDs and then he just walked off, so we followed him assuming he’s taking us to get seated? He turns around and makes us an ugly face and we ask “oh, um where do we sit” and he yells “this isn’t a restaurant man! This is a bar, go find your own seat” and we go “oh, ok. Where do we order” and he he points at a hallway inside the establishment w a sign of NADC burgers. And walks away. I can’t describe just how ugly and rude this man was. Now for the food review: Then, we order the burgers. $50 some for 2 burgers and 1 fry. It came out super fast so that was good. Burger was ok. It had a lot of flavor, so that was good, but the burger had to much going on. Super sloppy. Too much sauce, etc. buns were totally soggy even tho we had just gotten them. Fries were ok. Nothing special. All in all, it was not worth the price, especially including the parking situation (no parking, had to pay to park in a parking lot nearby.. $26 for 1hr) and very unfriendly environment of the...

Let's start with the negatives, of which there are many:

  1. This place is too loud, both inside and outside. It was difficult to order due to the noise level.
  2. There are holes in the floor that make it hard to walk around. Don't go here if you require flat and level flooring to get around.
  3. They advertise drinks that they cannot make. There were signs all over for a special drink but they said something was out of stock and they couldn't make it. Send somebody to the dang store and restock! Or ya know, take down the signs about your drink special :/
  4. The chairs are too tall and felt dangerous.
  5. The tables have a weird gross skin over them, kinda like a tablecloth but taut? Frankly it's disgusting.
  6. The general vibe combined with an overly aggressive DJ early in the day make it feel like a strange lobby at a hotel that's invitation-only for dumb instagram influencers.

Now the positives: great vodka water. 3 stars but wouldn't go back...

GET THE BURGER IN THE BACK -NADC burger is amazing and worth every cent of $16 price tag. Juicy tender wagyu beef dripping with melted cheese and a jalapeño kick along with their secret sauce ( Mayo and ketchup based) onions and pickles is almost perfection -the bun got soggy even in short time it took to devour. Add some fries and ketchup that seemed to burst with tomato flavor and wash it down with a draft beer or cider and you ll be in heaven. Took the pup too -nice outside area in back complete with doggie treats at the bar. I gotta say what they re doin to Rainey Street IS A CRIME a piece of Austin that will never be re captured - shame on you Austin businessmen...
