My twin brother David and I were in Austin recently visiting from California. Over lunch, we heard about AGT through Monica, an incredibly-gifted storyteller in her own right. After about three minutes pondering ghost tours over pasta and meatballs, I looked at David and declared, “Let’s do this! Besides, this isn’t something we'd normally do in a million years. Right?”
He simply nodded in the affirmative. And since the wine was flowing, the moon was glowing and it happened to be a Thursday, we attended “Ghosts, Murder and Mayhem,” an all-outdoors adventure in the darkened streets of Austin.
Our informed and hardy guide, Stephanie (wearing full period attire from head to ankles), managed to keep our large group together and engaged. We made our way safely around several (long) city blocks as she wove her love of Austin history into tales of the living dead. Stephanie spoke clearly into her portable loudspeaker, showed us digital photos of ghostly people, and kindly answered our questions like a pro.
A couple we met from New Jersey, (Joe and Carolyn, very nice people, I might add) confided they habitually ghost-tour on the east coast and are fans of a particular podcast personality. Who knew this was a thing?
What’s more…AGT’s key people are published authors on the subject. I ended up acquiring Monica’s book, “True Haunted Tales of the Driskill Hotel.” The book expanded my tour experience with more details, and allowed me to transport Austin’s ghosts back to Fresno to introduce to others. Get yourself a copy at Amazon now.
Sign-up for the next AGT and do yourself a scare. You’ll learn about Austin’s eerie episodes, ominous orbs, and transparent treasures. But make sure you take someone with you, though. Later, when you’re safely back home relaxing (and probably alone) you’ll vividly recall your spine-chilling experiences with AGT—and you’ll need someone to hold your hand and gently stroke your hair.
This is the real deal from the original folks who developed it in Austin. Go fo it! You deserve a spooky-grand time! You’ll be sad (and very bored)...
Read moreI went on a tour a while back with John “Madman” Maverick as our guide, and it was fantastic! I highly recommend this company. They are locals, have thorough knowledge of the history, and are incredibly engaging story tellers. They are the real deal!
I’m finally writing a review after so much time to support this local business, after we got scammed by a competing business tonight. I hope this review helps prevent others from falling victim to imposters.
There are several other (non-local) ghost tour companies that pose as this company, use their name in seo and third party travel sites, or otherwise confuse customers enough that it is now a common scam. Unfortunately, my group got scammed tonight when an out-of-town family member thought they were booking the Original Austin Ghost Tours, but it ended up being a poser company (U.S. Ghost Adventures, we found out). The poser company gave a horribly lackluster tour. Like, it was so utterly awkward, I thought we were being pranked.
In reading the lowest reviews for the Original Austin Ghost Tours, it became clear this has happened to a lot of people — they thought they had booked with The Original Austin Ghost Tours, they had a horrible experience, and left a bad review thinking it was them. It is so unfair that this local business’ name is getting dragged because of shady competing companies.
Moral of the story is: don’t use third party travel sites to book tours. Make sure you only book directly through their own website (austinghosttours.com), and you will have...
Read moreI’m absolutely frustrated with this company’s practices. I booked our tickets last week as we are visiting from Missouri. Last night I got a text confirming our scheduled tour. I had gotten an email with the details of the address, where to go and what to expect. We get there at 8:30 and wait until a little after 9 pm and no one showed. I called the number in the email which is a national number. They said “we tried to contact you with no success. The tour was canceled because there were are only 2 participants and we require 3! We wil reschedule you or give you a store credit!”
First - I did not have a missed call from them, no voice mail from them and no email from them telling me it was canceled. If they had called me I would have paid for a 3rd ticket just to go because we had planned our entire week around this event and had shirts for it and everything. They didn’t even seem to care that they didn’t try to reach out to me. I did tell them I didn’t live in the area and they would refund me. She looked and said “you did purchase the insurance so we will refund you” and I said “you would refund me either way because YOU canceled this....
