Great place to eat lunch if you are homeless and/or broke since the tray of food is free. The tray comes with a "bring-back-from-death" soup which has just about every vegetable you can think of with meat and rice and nuddles. Then also a sandwich, some jalapenos, bread, some candy, your choice of lemonade or tea. And if it's not enough, you can come back for another bowl of soup. Well, as many bowls of soups as you can eat. Open from 11:00 am til 12:30 pm. Now, I don't personally recommend it to you if you suffer from claustrophobia. The place gets crowded to the point that you have to kind of wait for someone to be done with their meal for you to find a place to sit down and eat. It can get on your nerves very easy and in a fight. Remember that 98% of people who eat there is homeless and people who are troublemakers. But, the people who serve are welcoming and, of course, Christian, since is a...
Read moreThis is not by any means a Christian place. In summer & holidays the stress levels are high here. It can smell bad at times. The reason behind my 5 star rating is you can come here with no money and they feed you well without any questions whatsoever. I've been coming here for years. You can meet interesting folk here just be wise to the streets because it is rough out here for these folks. They serve nutritious soup with vegetables, rolls, fruit, cake, soda, lemonade & tea here and it serves from 11am to 1230pm 7 days a week. My advice: arrive at noon to avoid the crowd. You'll be quick in quick out. During the holidays they serve turkey, brisket, eggs etc. You can take a bag of food just about every time you go because many people leave things they don't want. This is a hub of street life in Austin Texas. Jesus said you would be judged in the same way you did the...
Read more"Hot Soup, Praise the Lord!" A lot of people complain about the soup here but there's always a variety of ingredients to make it a valuable experience each day if you need a free lunch.
They don't just have soup they give you enough to be fed for the day around 11 and have a breakfast too, at 9 which I rarely go to but they will keep you more than fed daily if you're trying to survive here.
Don't eat the fried chicken they serve on Sunday unless you're desperate. I'm not a picky eater but it tastes days old because it is. All the others meals are more than edible though and I take most of it home to eat for snacks and dinner.
COVID has greatly impacted the quality of what you might get here but other than the fried chicken everything is safe...
