Kai Zabb is an absolute hidden gem (tuck in the back of the McNeil food-truck park)! This food truck is serving up one of the most unique and delicious fried chicken dishes with a Thai twist my husband and I ever had. Their fried chicken with curry (kaeng panaeng and kaeng kari) hits different—crispy, juicy (not oily), perfectly seasoned, and paired with a rich, flavorful curry that’s comforting and addicting. Definitely a perfect choice for anyone who's a fan of the Japanese chicken curry dish.
You can also tell they use only the freshest and highest quality ingredients—the flavors are vibrant, and everything tastes so thoughtfully prepared. It’s comfort food elevated to the next level! Not to mention their Thai tea and fried banana dessert slap—the tea doesn't taste water down like many places in Austin and the dessert is a sweet, warm hug in your mouth.
Also, it's a small detail, but I appreciated that their food is packed inside a sturdy paper container rather than in a styrofoam or plastic, which makes it easier to reheat later in the microwave as well as reduce the exposure to microplastics.
BTW, this food truck is run by the original owners of Dang Hot 89. Thus, if you're a fan of the food prior to it moving to the East side you will not be disappointed with this new concept. All in all, if anyone is looking for something special and crave-worthy, Kai Zabb is a must-try! Trust me—you’ll be thinking about that chicken and curry combo long after your last bite (in fact, I'm salivating right now as I'm...
Read moreKai Zabb is so good I want to keep it all for myself. And simultaneously tell everyone I know to come eat here. Small menu because everything is a hit, with huge portions and fresh crispy chicken. Ordering in advance is a good idea - since everything is made to order there's always a wait, but if you aren't sure what to get the owner/chef is very friendly and is happy to chat about the menu. The sauces are really what makes this S-tier, the hedonist in me wants to bathe in them. Light and thin, perfect for dunking or drizzling, and packed with flavor. Basil chicken (Kra-Prao) is my favorite so far. Don't be scared to get it spicy! Kai Tod is the least exciting, very sweet and sticky, but perfect for simpler (or younger) palates. Everything comes with a mountain of rice and a side salad, too. And the leftovers reheated well the next day! The sitting area for the truck is spacious and cozy; big tables, lots of happy plants, and with a large shade cover overhead - secluded enough to sit down and have a conversation (between stuffing your mouth with chicken...) Looking forward to...
Read moreHello everyone! Normally, I never leave reviews about the food I eat at different restaurants, but “Gai Zapp” (Spicy Chicken) made me feel like I had to share my thoughts.
This happened when I wanted to order a large meal set to treat people at my church. The church is located two hours away from the restaurant by car, so I had to place my order and transport the food on Saturday.
The result? The food still tasted crispy and delicious, just like it had just come fresh out of the fryer! I reheated it using an air fryer for 10 minutes at 350°F, and it turned out perfect.
All the church members unanimously agreed that this restaurant’s food is the best they’ve ever had. They loved the crispy on the outside and tender on the inside of the chicken, and the sauce was perfectly balanced and delicious. The jasmine rice was fragrant and had a soft, delicate texture. Every dish was absolutely outstanding. I highly recommend that everyone make it a point to dine at...
