Let’s start by saying I’ve never been to a Japanese Steakhouse. When we come in there was 1 table in the entire building and they were getting to when we walked in. 2 adults and a young toddler. They asked if we wanted to sit at the grill. We were super excited because we never have been able to experience something like this. We are 5 hours from home! The waiter explained the rules and we understood (so I thought). He brings us waters and then the bottled sodas. My husband and children ordered and then I ordered my Sushi as I am not a big fan of Asian type foods they have here. I was told for me to sit there it would be $10 extra because I didn’t order grill food. I looked around and we were literally the only people in the restaurant. He said it is the rules of the restaurant and took our menus, I said ok that’s ok. He said for us to have a good day and I asked what we do and he walked off. So we took our drinks and walked to the host stand and let them know we aren’t sure what we are supposed to do and let him know what our waiter said. About 5 minutes later the same water comes back and asked my husband if he wanted his drink he left on the table and he said no and I asked for another waiter to attend to us. The new waiter went over our order which was almost entirely wrong, we corrected it and about 30-40 minutes or so later my sushi comes out. It sat there for another 15 minutes until the rest of my family’s food come so we could eat together. My sushi was ok. My daughter had the Hawaiian pork and she didn’t eat it. The food was ok. The manager Kevin come and apologized for us not being able to sit at the grill and said it was store rules. I let him know there was NO ONE else in the restaurant when we got there. He insisted it was the rules. That’s fine. Our new server was nice and Kevin was friendly but we will not recommend this place. Food was like any Asian food you can get at a mal food court and service was shotty. 4...
Read moreThis is not the best Hibachi (show wise) I've ever been to, but Austin really seemed to have limited options to choose from in comparison to Houston. Out of the choices available at this time (May 2015) I think I made the right choice. My buddy was in town from Europe and had never experienced it before.
One of the chefs I was watching waiting for our table's cook to come out looked a little bored and was a bit quiet, but the cook that we got was a lively guy and he put on a great show. The food was good, he cooked our filet perfectly, and my buddy had a great time which is exactly what I wanted. Kobe in this aspect didn't let me down.
What gets this place 4 stars for me is the Lone Star sushi roll. It's a bit of a hidden gem there. If you want to try something a bit different, this roll is it. My buddy wasn't a big fan of fish, and so sushi seemed out of the question. But this roll really turned him on to the idea of eating sushi! Steak (they ask how you want it cooked, go for medium rare!), fresh jalapeno (they weren't spicy, which I found to be a good thing, but some might not), and cream cheese all wrapped up in rice and soybean paper to make sure it stays together as you eat it. It came with an avocado dipping sauce. It was definitely a Texas twist on sushi and while I'm sure other places do things like this this is the first time I've seen this sort of thing and I thought it was a great addition to the restaurant's hibachi experience.
Note: If you've never eaten hibachi before in your life, and you are not a super hungry person and don't mind sharing food, I highly recommend sharing your plate and ordering a single plate of hibachi. Add a side of shrimp and a sushi roll, and share! Sushi, a single ordered plate of hibachi and all of it's accessories was more food than the two of us could eat and we're pretty much pros at...
Read moreWhile I would personally give the hibachi chef 5 stars or more based on his performance and entertainment, I feel that 1 star is appropriate based on the overall experience here. Maybe it was my mistake to order sushi in a Kobe steakhouse, maybe it wasn't. Honestly my husband and I are both avid lovers of sushi and food in general. I believe that if you're going to serve sushi anywhere it should not only be high quality, but also edible. We spoke with our waiter and explained that the sushi we ordered was the wrong temperature and did not taste fresh, with a strange combination of sauces on top of it all. She then apologized and brought the manager over. From that point our experience in this fun place went to an angry look and walk over to us from the manager. We then explained what we found was wrong with the order and she had the audacity to say that we didn't understand and ate sushi differently (wrong in other words) and that we should have ordered the disgusting combination of sauces on the side. We asked that they at least remove one of the orders since we tried a couple of bites or a few pieces of the roll to see if it would taste differently. The manager then walked off, we got our check without the waiter saying anything and nothing was removed from the order. I don't know about anyone else, but if I'm taking my other food home and sending the rest back, there's obviously something wrong and I would work with the customer's dissatisfaction. As the waiter handed us our already scanned check, the manager then kept angrily peeking out of the kitchen until we left. I will probably never go here again and while recommending their place for a good time and delicious hibachi steak, no one should make the mistake of ordering their sushi. If you have food on your menu, you should know how to cook and...
