Merry Monarch Creamery — Restaurant in Austin

I have sampled a LOT of ice cream/gelato throughout Austin & can say confidently, this is the best. The flavors here are made for adults who appreciate new, exciting choices which are also completely accessible (it’s ice cream, after all, your kids will love it too!). I have wondered with all the fresh cherries in the summer why no one had a cherry sorbet - until I found Merry Monarch Creamery. Oh the morello cherry sorbet was AMAZING and I can’t wait to try other sorbets here. My favorite ice cream flavor lately has been the chocolate coffee luxardo cherry preserve. (Hello! Why does no one else put luxardo cherries in their ice creams?!?!)

Merry Monarch is hands-down the best ice cream in Austin. Chef Greg’s always-changing flavors showcase the best ingredients. His (mainstay flavor) Oreo Miso is the most intense cookies ‘n’ cream ice cream you’ve ever had with an umami component you never knew you wanted. Persian Honeycomb, another regular flavor, is creamy and honey-sweet but still balanced. Seasonal flavors include pumpkin spice latte, morello cherry sorbet, and much more.

Pints are rare, so follow his Instagram for a chance at select flavors every few weeks. Greg of Merry Monarch is truly dedicated to his craft. The only ice cream place in Austin with such unique and exciting flavors- it is a good problem to have when you spend too long trying to decide what flavors to get. Good thing you can get two flavors with the split scoop ($7). Greg is continuously working on bringing new flavors to the game, which sometimes depends on the seasonality of the ingredients.
