Update 9/4/24: I still really enjoy many of the dishes at this place, but the birria ramen didn't quite hit the spot for me. It might have been the use of spaghetti instead of traditional noodles, and the broth felt a bit thick, making it less like ramen-like. Personally, I wouldn't order that again.
However, the al pastor and birria tacos were excellent and lived up to the quality I'm used to from Nissi. I do enjoy the other dishes on the menu and would still recommend this place!
As of 1/28/24: Had an absolutely delicious experience at this 100% plant-based vegan restaurant! I've been on the hunt for healthier options due to some health issues, and after getting tired of eating salads at home, I was craving a hearty plant-based flavorful meal. If you're in the mood for healthier Mexican food, this place is a must-try! Every dish we ordered was incredibly fresh and tasty. I could literally smell the freshness as soon as the plate hit the table (especially with the flautas).
We went for the chicken tacos plate and the flauta plate, and everything had this distinct, fresh flavor, and texture. Even with the flautas covered in a delicious sauce, they managed to retain the crispiness without it getting soggy. The al pastor and chicken tacos were perfection - the seasoning, texture, and taste were spot-on. The bean side was whipped to perfection as well. Without a doubt, this has become my new favorite spot for fresh Mexican food! Highly recommend!
Service was great, and there was ample seating inside.
Next time I want to try the birria plate and...
Read moreJust so you know before you go.. This is no longer a food truck and is instead a brick and mortar location in the crossroads shopping center. I was looking for a food truck and couldn’t find it and after calling them three times and seemingly hearing someone pick up and hang up I left. After driving and bit down Research Blvd on my way back home decided to go back and check the actual walk in businesses (that’s partially my fault for not looking at them the first time). They aren’t included in the businesses on the signage by the road. Also be aware that their prices are not what they were before. Their plates are $14-$15 instead of $11. The portions of rice and beans were literally two spoon fulls each. I got the carne asada burrito and it had iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, (I asked for no onions) And the soy protein was very weird tasting and mushy. There was no sauce as far as I could tell and no salsa in the togo bag. The chips and queso consisted of a handful of bland and obviously pre-packaged chips and the “queso” was a yellow lime flavored very runny liquid served in a condiment ramekin for $8. I’m fully aware that their overhead costs probably increased when going from a food truck to a building, and I know after being vegan for two years that vegan food tends to be more expensive. With this said, businesses should know what they are selling and charge a price that matches. The potions were tiny and I paid $38+ for two burrito plates and chips and queso. I was very excited to try their vegan Tex-Mex, but this experience was quite...
Read moreThis is your basic fast food Tex-Mex, but vegan. I was hoping for good vegetables or unique vegan dishes but no such luck .
We got the burrito w/fajitas and taco plate w/picadillo. The vegan fajitas were under seasoned and watery, the pickle was spicy and good, and the tortilla was perfectly cooked around it. The beans were also flavorless, mealy and a bit watery. The rice was the opposite, great flavor slightly spicy, cooked perfectly. The fajita burrito was “meh.”
The picadillo tacos on the other hand were outstanding. Great texture more “meat” than expected, and the potato perfectly cooked and cut, the onions were also the perfect size. The “street taco” corn tortillas were doubled and filled over capacity. With a lime to enhance the flavor and diced cilantro. Definitely recommend.
We got a hempchata too. Do not under any circumstances order it. It was chalky and undrinkable. It was sweet and flavorless which just enhanced the chalky flavor. And no refunds though they will replace it.
The service person was great and let me taste their limeade which was not tart mainly sweet, good for kids. The other agua fresca was a homemade “Jaimaica” hibiscus that was tart and quite perfect.
Beans were left on the plate, unheard of in my family, but the picadillo...
