Really like the interior of this place, like industrial chic and lots of seating so you don't have to worry about being cramped next to someone else. Our servers were all pleasant and attentive. The bread they serve as a freebie was so good, the crust was super crunchy. Get it!
The butcher board was delicious, just the ratio was slightly off. They were super generous with the meats but we got one small cube of cheese per style. I want a good amount of cheese with my board! The bread served with it is perfect and the selection of olives were tasty too. One small thing is that if they ask you how many people are eating the board just say 1 unless a whole table is sharing. We said 2 when asked and weren't made aware that this would double the price. It was also huge and easily served 4 people.
The happy hour is great for drinks, $6 beers and cocktails. I got a mojito which was a little more bitter than I prefer but the mix of mint and lime was perfect so still a solid drink. My fiancée got the Ginger Punch which was delicious. The Sauvignon Blanc was lovely, but I would have preferred it served in a chilled glass since it got warm quickly on a hot evening.
The salad my mom got looked good and she really enjoyed it. My fiancee's ribs were absolutely delicious and I was stealing the coleslaw off his plate, so fresh! I got the Petite Steak Frites from the happy hour menu and while I enjoyed it, I was disappointed compared to my party's meals. The steak is very petite and parts were quite chewy. I asked for medium and got a medium rare, which I'm perfectly fine with but I know others would have had issues. The fries were delicious though and after the tasty butcher board I was happy overall with my meal.
My dad's salmon came out raw in the middle and when we complained the service was perfect. They apologized right away, and while it did take a good 15 minutes to get the replacement, they brought him a mushroom soup to eat while he waited. It was delicious and rich and I took a few spoonfuls to put on top of my petite steak, which really elevated the dish! When the bill came, they had taken off the salmon which we were not expecting, especially since the 2nd salmon was cooked perfectly. That's what you call great service in the face of a mistake.
Overall, just a few small things stopping this from being a 5 star, but I'll definitely be back to try something else...
Read moreMy experience tonight was nothing short of frustrating. Myself, my partner and another couple made reservations and placed our orders.
Upon myself and my partner ordering the buttermilk fried chicken we requested a different side instead of the homemade coleslaw to which our server replied it is a “garnish” and could not be substituted which was odd because every other experience I have had at Paul Martin’s I have ordered the exact same meal and have ALWAYS substituted, my partner included. To that end my partner felt that was odd but the additional couple placed their orders.
The food arrived some time later and my plate consisted of more of the “garnished” coleslaw than the side of mashed potatoes and one person of the couple tried their food and did not like it so she requested something different immediately following her first bite to which our server stated did they want to box it up because they would be charged for it, the couple declined and asked why they would be charged to which the server responded it was made. In an effort to get an additional order in and a clear language barrier they just said ok and placed a new order.
Following, the server did in fact charge them for the order that was disposed of to which we discussed all of our concerns with the manager. He was able to rectify the uneaten order charge and reiterated that the homemade coleslaw is in fact a garnish and although I have received it before it was due to me being unaware and the server granting it as a one time substitution (although this has occurred more than once).
This was so embarrassing as my partner and I invited this couple to Paul Martins as their first experience and due to previously being able to substitute the “garnish” I had planned my meal in advance to be extremely disappointed. There is a clear inconsistency around what you are able to receive accommodations on and I will certainly...
Read moreHorrendous service on Thanksgiving. Waited 50 minutes AT TABLE with only water for waiter to take order although my daughter had to ask another waiter for some bread. After another 15 minutes we were informed they ran out of our soup even though it was early in the day (we arrived on time for our 1:15 reservation). The manager came to offer apology for delay + offered to bring another soup which they brought after another delay but which we didn't like. After a few sips of new soup the new waiter said soup we originally ordered was made & asked if we wanted it. When we said yes, my daughter out of desperation asked for him to just bring whole meal, except dessert. After we finished mushroom soup (delicious), main fare was brought...good amount of turkey w/gravy alongside very small servings of "stuffing" + good mashed potatoes, but no "family-style" sides which were brought AFTER my daughter & granddaughter had finished main plate. Both of them LIKED THE FOOD but despite advertised "classic Thanksgiving dinner," nothing had traditional seasonings. Too nouveau for me. We requested bill which the original waiter brought. We hadn't seen him since placing original order - choice between 2 appetizers + 2 side choices only. Main fare the same for all. Waiter finally brought bill AT FULL PRICE, no discount for all the delays + work (we basically bussed our own table several times while waiting). Daughter asked waiter to ask manager for discount which he authorized. They gave us $30 off, which we considered quite FAIR since full price was $35 per person, even though we had to request it.( I guess he originally thought his profuse apology + offer of alternative soup was ok.) WRONG! We finally left about 3:40, arriving home at 4:00, having missed an hour of the Cowboys game around which we had planned the whole day. (Mood did not improve...Cowboys played...
