Pho Dan — Restaurant in Austin

I’ve been a customer for 5 years. I’ve always loved this place. But the past few times I’ve gone after a few months of not coming in, it seems like the service gets worse and worse.

Today my boyfriend and I went in to enjoy a late lunch. We were greeted by the hostess at the front and seated at our table. We waited maybe a little longer than five minutes before the same woman came to our table to take our order. Like I said, I’ve been there plenty times before so I knew what I wanted instantly. We gave her our drink orders, our appetizer order and entree order all at the same time. She leaves and goes to the back.

We’re waiting for our drinks when about 20 minutes later we receive our food from another woman which was two small bowls of pho with steak and brisket. Still no drinks. A few minutes later the woman who took our order comes with one of our appetizers and my boyfriends drink. Without mine. A few more minutes later she finally brings my drink and our other appetizer.

It was a disappointing experience (And I’ve been a server since I was 17 so I know it’s not difficult at all to bring a table their drinks after they order them.) and after all of that, after the years of me ordering the same thing, they charged me more than I’ve always paid. I didn’t feel like arguing though. I only mentioned it to my boyfriend in front of the woman, paid my check without tipping and left. Sorry to say it but it looks like I’ll have to find a new favorite place to eat with better common sense...

11/25 at about 4:00 PM my two friends and I were greeted by the host and led to our table. There were about 5 front of the house employees working when we got there, it looked pretty slow, out of the 12-15 tables they have only 2 other small tables were being sat at.

We waited for about 30 minutes and no one came to take our order, I got up from our table and asked the person at the register if he could take my order or have someone come to our table. They smiled courtesly and said yes.

Not a few moments later, another couple walked in behind us and were greeted right away and taken to a table. The same host I asked to take my order went to the people who came in behind us and took their order and got them drinks.

At this point it took 45 minutes and we had no drinks and no one took our order. I kind of felt like it was deliberate, or this dude was having a really bad day to not take our order or get us drinks.

We respectfully put our menus back on the host stand and walked out, again walking past multiple employees and the host who continued to ignore us, and left.

Can’t say wether they were having a bad day, racist, or just didn’t want business but this experience really put a sour taste...

This is hands down the best Pho in Austin. I have had Hai Ky, Pho King, all the ones that come highly recommended and this one tastes the best and gives you the best bang for your buck. I don't like reviews of Vietnamese restaurants that laud about the portion size for Pho (since the nature of the dish is large) but this place really out does themselves. The photo on this page is for the middle-sized bowl. I have NEVER finished the large and I am about 260. Their spring rolls are amazing and their chili paste is very flavorful (important for me). The only thing I would say is lacking is because they are so busy at lunch time (when I normally go because thankfully it is about a mile from work) it takes a whole 10 minutes to get my food. Come on.... That's not really even waiting if you've been anywhere except McD's lately but still it feels longer than most Pho restaurants. Decor is very modern, lots of glass, which is very appealing. Free Wifi.
