Expected more based on the descriptions on the menu. Not bad, but not good either.
The birria crunchwrap was huge, but felt like just eating 2 inches of ok-tasting meat. The "my girlfriend isn't hungry" platter is a great concept, but I found some of the portioning to be small for the items I really wanted (corn dip) and large for, of course, the cheaper items (fries).
I did really like the fried cauliflower, but I thought it was weird that the Buffalo sauce came on the side, so you had to dip once in that then once in the ranch - kinda messy.
Service was friendly but inconsistent. They would come by once, then disappear for a long time. I'd rather have a clear expectation that I either need to always go to the bar, or order from the QR code, or get table service. It was too sporadic to keep a good rhythm of drinks going.
Parking was also difficult. It seemed like we shouldn't park in the lot with Kerbey Lane and the other businesses, and parking by the bar was full, so we went across the street. We were trying to be safe so we had to walk quite a ways to the crosswalk to cross, so try to park closer to that if you can.
Overall not bad, and prices were decent, but it didn't seem to live up to what was presented on...
Read moreI gave an overall 4 based off of 2 things, the food, and the super kind tall gentleman with glasses that brings out the food. Twice me and my boyfriend have been here and had the same bartender whom we felt was not very welcoming, and has given off the demeanor of rude or just disinterested in taking our orders. No one should have to wait over 30 min to get a soda. I had to flag her down last night when it was barely anyone in there! When she first came to take our drink order, when she brought the card back she didn’t hand it, she slammed it on the table and walked off. I waited to see if she would come back on her own to check on us, but I saw her talking to another customer laughing and being pleasant. When I waved for her attention when she got back to the bar, she came and her tone was completely different than how she was with the other customer she was previously talking to. It made me feel like I was bothering her. It’s already bad enough that anytime we’ve been here we are the only black ones there and get awkward looks. I don’t foresee us coming back here to dine, just to go orders...
Read moreThunder Chief is a delightful restaurant inside lavaca Street bar.
They have a different food special every night of the week.
The guy that does the restaurant running, takes your order and runs the food, he was super friendly and very nice.
Burger Monday is excellent. They have a $5 smashburger, but I recommend adding the second Patty for another $4 bucks making it a total of $9. It's an excellent smash burger and totally mealworthy.
You can get a beer at the Lavacca Street bar, no real discounts there though. I think the beer I got was a 512 IPA and it was $9 nine bucks?
Monday: Smashburger special
Tuesday: $3 crunchy tacos
Wednesday: 50% off wings
Thursday: Throwback Thursday, not sure exactly what this means in terms of a food deal??
Friday / Fryday: Fried chicken sandwich special, five bucks I think
Weekend: Something called a game day special, not sure what this means in terms of food discounts??
Parking: You can park in the deck...
