Mia Madre Trattoria — Restaurant in Avalon

Updating my review after just noticing that the owner replied and the situation was out of their control as the issue was with GrubHub. Please note, the initial review was pre-covid. I'm sure Mia Madre produces excellent food and their attention to detail in the response leads me to believe the service is great. It sounds more like the issue is/was with Grub Hub and not with the restaurant.

Wouldn't order food on grub hub from here. I ordered at 5:30 and only live a few miles away. Then I received an update stating the food would be 15 minutes late - not a big deal, should still arrive at 6:30. Nope. Next update said it wouldn't be there until 7:30 or 7:45. There's a good chance the food would be cold then and Grub Hub said that it could be due to traffic or the restaurant being busy. There's no way that bellevue or avalon traffic was that bad, and if you can't handle the volume of business then you shouldn't be...

This restaurant, which was located in Avalon, was very quaint and relaxing. The vibe was family oriented, from the table settings to pictures on the walls and the decore. Where we sat, as a group of seven, felt like going to someone’s home for Sunday family dinner, even though it was a Tuesday. Everybody brought a bottle or two of wine and after appetizers, main courses and desserts (I forgot to take a picture of the tiramisu), the bill was more than reasonable. There were ample portions of food and everything was delicious. You get the sense that everyone knows everyone and it’s family owned and the family members are all around, involved in the day to day operations. It felt genuine and authentic there. Love the food and the place is always packed with people. The staff is not always up to par depending on who is working and how they are feeling but that is how it works in the service industry. The last time I ordered I just wanted to pick up 3 canolis as they are the BEST I have ever had at any restaurant or bakery but was told that I cannot do that they were too busy. So I went in to order them and again was told that I could not order anything to take out . After explaining the situation that I was told over the phone I could come in and order them they did get my food for me. $27 is a bit much for 3 canolis but they are great and I wanted them.
