Walking into Etzel Itzik Deli in Miami, you're immediately greeted by an ambiance that's both vibrant and authentically Israeli. This small yet inviting eatery, nestled in the heart of Aventura, offers a culinary journey that is as genuine as it is delightful. The deli has managed to carve out a niche for itself, becoming a go-to spot for both locals and visitors craving Middle Eastern flavors.
Upon my visit, the dish that stood out most was their renowned crispy falafel. Served piping hot, each falafel ball was perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining tender and flavorful on the inside. The blend of spices was spot-on, offering a taste that was both rich and nuanced. Accompanied by their homemade tahini sauce, the falafel was not just food but an experience, capturing the essence of Israeli street food.
But it wasn't just the falafel that left an impression. The hummus, described by many as one of the best in town, truly lived up to its reputation. Creamy, smooth, and topped with olive oil, it was a testament to the simple yet profound pleasures of well-made hummus. Paired with warm, freshly baked pita bread, it was a combination that I found myself returning to throughout the meal.
The service at Etzel Itzik Deli was as memorable as the food. Staff members were attentive, welcoming, and more than willing to share recommendations, adding to the overall warmth of the experience. The dining room, adorned with Polaroid pictures of smiling patrons, added a personal touch that made the space feel like a community hub rather than just a restaurant.
In summary, Etzel Itzik Deli is more than just a place to eat; it's a destination that offers a slice of Israel in the heart of Miami. With its standout dishes like the crispy falafel and unparalleled hummus, alongside a welcoming atmosphere, it's a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the depths of Israeli cuisine. Whether you're a local or just passing through, a meal at Etzel Itzik promises to be a memorable part of your...
Read moreI discovered this place by accident. I actually went to the next-door store to repair a suitcase, and while I was there, I noticed this place was packed! So, I checked out the menu and entered to request a table. It was a full house inside, and there was a couple of empty tables outside, so I ended up choosing an outside table.
This is a very popular restaurant for the Jewish community. I'm not Jewish, but I could tell that most of the guests, and even those picking up orders, were from the Jewish community and spoke Hebrew. I suspected that if the local community eats here, they must have excellent plates. My suspicious were right.
The menu is written in English and Hebrew and includes some pictures, which I found extremely helpful. After you take a seat, the waiter brings around eight appetizers in small bowls with different food such as sauerkraut, pickled radish, carrots, among others. And this in on the house, no charge.
I ordered a chicken Shawarma in a wrap - everything in it, but they also offer it in a plate. The order came with french fries, and my husband ordered lamb shawarma. They were both DELICIOUS. To drink, please do yourself a favor and order the lemonade with mint. It is out of this world (if you visit the place on a summer day, this drink is a must.)
The waitress was super friendly, the overall service was fast, and the affordable price was the icing on the cake. I will return to have the lamb on the plate and other delicatessens.
PS: the indoor seating is usually packed, and there are many tables in a small room. I'm not sure the tables are...
Read moreThey serve unsold food from previous days. One of the waitress is a really negative vibe to have nearby. I went for lunch on a busy afternoon, passed noon already. First, the waitress did not like it when I made her a gesture to her that I was ready to order after waiting for so long.... It was Wednesday but I thought by mistake that it was Tuesday, so I asked her: Do you still have any Lamb special? She did not tell me it wasn't Tuesday she just turned around quickly and brought me lamb ENOUGH for at least 2 people. Meat was a little dry, but I was so hungry I couldn't stop eating it. I requested the bill and the waitress comes and tosses it on the table and leaves. You could tell, something was going on. Bill was $44 (I had asked for water to drink). I said to myself what could be wrong here (since I had ordered the Special of the day) and when I look at my cellphone and realized it was Wednesday rather than Tuesday, it all came to my mind right away. They poured all the old lamb from "yesterday" on my plate and laughed about...
