Edit: I originally posted my review below 2 years ago. Today, I'm getting ready to fly back home after visiting the Outer Banks for the 3rd year in a row. Again, my family and I made it a point to drive an hour and a half from our rental house to eat at Gidget's. Again, Gidget's was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The staff is always warm, welcoming, attentive, and efficient. The food is so delicious! Pretty much our entire table ordered the Spaghetti a la MC, with extra meatballs. These meatballs are not only huge, but the world's best. If you happen to make your way to Hatteras to visit the lighthouse, make it a point to stop at Gidget's for dinner on your way back. Or you can be like my family, and make the drive down there just for the meatballs!
Original Review: My group of 5 spontaneously stopped here on our way back to Corolla from the Hatteras lighthouse. It had a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, and EVERYTHING we ordered came out quickly, and was amazingly delicious. They had the best garlic breadsticks I have ever had. Their alfredo actually tasted homemade, unlike every other italian place I've been to. They also have awesome pizza and sandwiches. I'll definitely be making this place a regular stop whenever I'm vacationing in the...
Read moreWe popped in here during our most recent trip to the OBX. I really like the other pizza place in Avon (Nino's), but it wasn't as good this time, so off we went to try Gidget's.
This restaurant used to be called Toppers, but from my understanding, it's still under the same ownership.
Gidget's is located in a small strip mall with a few other shops, restaurants and a grocery store. We came mid-day in early May, the restaurant was probably 1/2-1/3 full and service was very slow. I'll give them a pass, to be fair, I think there was only one employee servicing the dining room.
I noticed that there was a yelp check in freebie for garlic bread with cheese, OMG, this was the highlight of the meal!! These were super tasty and delicious, I would order them again.
My pizza was average, it was not a NY style and reminded me a lot of the thin crust pizza I used to get at the chain Pizzeria Uno. It was fresh and tasty though. My husband went for an Italian entree that he enjoyed.
Overall I'd give this experience about a 3.5 stars. I don't know how the wait usually is, but I wouldn't want to sit at a table waiting with...
Read moreAlthough it takes up half of her namesake, if you go to Gidget's for pasta you will unfortunately be wildly disappointed. Things didn't start off great when I was told it would take nearly two hours for my take out order to be ready but hey it was Saturday and places get busy, I can understand. What I can't understand however, is the chicken parm being nothing more than a few sad strips of frozen GRILLED chicken (like the ones you'd throw in a salad) with a single layer of crusty melted shredded cheese on top. Never in my entire life have I ever seen a chicken parm look so sad. I don't know if I could even call the dish chicken parm!!! It's like Gidget only heard of the concept and never actually saw it in her life. You might be asking, was the sauce good at least? Barely, you can tell it comes from a jar. Well was the pasta at least cooked? Surprisingly yes (low bar I know). But that doesn't make up for the butchering of such a staple recipe. All in all if you decide to order here, stick...
