China King Restaurant — Restaurant in Bad Axe

We were out for a drive through the Thumb and found this place almost by accident. Went in and looked around. Clean and inviting, but the buffet seemed a little 'small.' Turns out, Looks can be deceiving!! While not sporting dozens of selections, the focus is on quality rather than quantity. Every selection was very tasty. They even had Almond Chicken on the buffet, something not often seen. And the 'piece de resistance??'....EGG ROLLS DETROIT STYLE with Bean Sprouts!! Oh my gosh, to be delivered from the banality of cabbage egg rolls was simply divine! Everything seemed to be prepared in-house. So many Asian buffets use cookie cutter foods right out of the bag/can/box. Not the case, here. You can tell the difference. Also, we had a wonderful server, very attentive and gracious! If you find yourself close to Bad Axe, give China King a try. Then walk across the street to J&L Ice Cream...

Decent tasting food, not too greasy. Best time and value is for the buffet. Tea (not sure about other beverages), soup and egg roll come with the buffet. Pricing is market for the area and portions are decent-sized.

As the locals like to phrase it- I'm from "The City". Translation: southeastern part of Michigan's lower peninsula, which has many cities, towns, etc. I have more access and more experience with numerous types of foods outside the Thumb Area, thus my rating of "decent food" for this eatery.

If you're passing through or even if you're a regular out-of-towner, be prepared for furtive and not-so-furtive stares. Ignore them and...

I wish they had a place like this in my town! Was in Bad Axe for work and decided to try China King out for lunch and ended up here every day while I was in town. The prices are very fair especially for the quality of food. Each dish I tried was hot and fresh like it just came off the stove. The meat is tender and delicious and not the typical processed food that is common to most Chinese restaurants. All the veggies also tasted freshly cooked and definitely not reheated. The size of the lunch plates was more than I could eat, each delivered with a soup and spring roll. When I'm in town again I'll be looking forward to...
