While the cakes have good quality and taste they have yet to decorate a special occasion custom order correctly. This is now the third time they have messed up an order. The first time I asked them to do John Deere cupcakes for my son to take to school but I didn't want a dark green frosting that would give all his classmates green mouths for the rest of the day. What did I get? Dark green frosting. Strike one. The second time I ordered cupcakes I don't even remember what they messed up. I must have blacked out. All I know is I was so irritated I went home and stayed up way later than I had time for just to make the damn things myself. Strike two. This time, (though i should have known better) I went in and provided a picture. I gave explicit and clear communication about what I wanted. I said I wanted the cake to be done in mostly white, with lavender accents and writing, and I wanted some glitter on it to make it look delicate and feminine because it was for a girl. I even explained that lavender was a pastel purple (just to be clear), like you might see on an Easter egg. I kid you not, the cake is done exactly as I wanted it....but it's in pale blue. And then instead of offering to fix it, or give me a discount, or do anything to fix their mistake; they stand there and argue with me about how they used the purple food dye. I'm sorry but didn't you look at it to make sure it was the right color before you applied it? Maybe add some pink to it or something? Strike three. You're out. Except for the rare request for their donut holes for my kids (the taste of their product has been a driving force for my extended patience), they have lost my business going forward. I like to support local, but I'll go to someone else's local...
Read moreI arrived on a Saturday morning to pick up a cake order. I had called only called Friday morning to order it. I had asked what they had available as I was looking for a white cake with chocolate frosting. This was for a last minute birthday gathering. I was hoping they had a cake made already.I was told that they could make it and she took my order and asked if I wanted specific colors for the writing . I also specifically asked for no flowers….it was for my 19 year old son. The counter person Saturday was beyond rude. She slammed the cake on the counter and rudely announced that I was lucky to even have a cake done that morning as they need 48 hour notice. It was a white cake with WHITE frosting and blue flowers. When I politely told her that was not even what I ordered she told me they could “scrape it off and fix it.” Since my son’s name was on it and he is an understanding young man I did take the cake despite the incredibly rude staff. She did however not charge me for the flowers on the cake…. The ones I specifically asked NOT to be put on. She assured me that was a significant discount. $4 was all she took off!! I should of just walked out without it and also left the dozen donuts that we ordered. Customer service is as important as food quality. I hope the owners can fix this problem before they continue to lose more business. I won’t drive 30 minutes again for such...
Read moreOMG!!!! Another truly real scratch Bakery! When we moved to Michigan, I thought moving to a winter centric location would be a boon for access to good bakeries. BOY WAS I WRONG! The thumb, at least, is a BAKERY-DESERT! That makes Murphys a true local-ish treasure. It's still 30 miles away but so is everything up here. The haul didn't last long once home but when was the last time you found TOTALLY SCRATCH CREAM HORNS, CANNOLIS, CREAM PUFFS, ECLAIRS (without crossing into Canada) and I'm not talking mass-produced shells that they fill but scratch all the way! I haven't got a chance to try the donuts. I got there around 10am and those were sold-out. She mentioned the had 150 customers by like 6am. They open the doors at 4am. I think I may have found us a Michigan alternative to our Lexington Kentucky Spalding's Bakery, what I previously considered one of the best I've been to. Now Murphy's Bakery is giving them a run for the money. If you haven't tried Murphy's in Badaxe MI, it's worth the drive but go EARLY! I'll get photos on next trip. I was too excited to remember to...
