First- please note that a "salad" is not a salad...it's lettuce. And that's it. Apparently, a "salad with goodies" is what you would think a salad would be and that costs $2 more. So a bed of lettuce and a patty is $8.50. The rude lady (as I'll call her) is adamant she put their dressing in the bag, the orange dressing, she says. So, it's not there. I've checked with everyone in the office and the bag, but that's fine. Lettuce dressing doesn't sound as appeasing as salad dressing, anyway. The rude lady was very short to the person who we sent to pick it up and pay. We have only eaten here once before and it was awhile ago, so we didn't remember it was cash only. But then my boss remembered they took Venmo from us last time, which....they did. Of course, the rude lady couldn't say it politely that it's not a thing. "We've been here '37' years and we've never taken card." Demanding that our person take a picture of the receipt, because they don't hand out receipts. Our person did not want to go out to the car and get her phone which of course put Miss Thang into a huffy. Her demeanor is less than pleasing to say the least. As I get older, I realize where the grumpiness comes from but most people just retire and stay away from the community, not stay in customer service. I would suggest she do the same because there's no reason to be so short and condescending. She's the only reason we won't be back which is a bummer because the food and everything else seems to be on point. I gave an extra star because the patty was tasty...and the lettuce...well, was lettuce.
And to note...from Wikipedia to Miss Grumpy Gills: A salad is a dish consisting of mixed, mostly natural ingredients with at least one raw ingredient. They are often dressed, and typically served at room temperature or chilled, though some can be served warm. That's for our conversation that we had...
Read moreGreat food and good service. Rude owner.
I haven't been to Happy Jack's for years, but stopped in today for lunch while we were running around downtown. Looking for a place that was open later and Yelp said it was open until 8 PM. We arrived at the restaurant at 3:40 PM. We waited for a few minutes before our order was taken because the waitress was busy. We both had burgers and we split a piece of strawberry shortcake which was excellent. Our waitress was sweet and overworked and very helpful. The unpleasantries started when the owner came out from the kitchen. She began to berate the waitress for some thing she didn't like. We sat and finished our dessert and chitchatted for a few minutes afterwards. We had no idea that they closed at 4pm. It was about 415 by this time. The owner told us that they were closed 15 minutes ago and that she was having a meeting with her attorney. So we jumped up ready to leave and felt bad that we were taking our time. The Owner then told us that we should never have been served because we came in later than 345, but that the waitress chose to serve us anyway. Again, none of this was communicated to us. But she told us we should've noticed because it was posted on the front door. She was very rude to us and her employee. The waitress was busting her butt trying to keep up and make everyone happy. The owner could've nicely told us that they were closing in a few minutes, but she was so rude in shaming us and her employee. I can't believe a business Owner would treat customers like this. I don't care how good their burgers are. We won't be back. NOTE: Google, Yelp, and Facebook say that they are...
Read moreThe food is good. I don't think it's any pricier than any comparable Burger in the area. Most places give you a burger about as thick as the pickle slice, but this is a fairly decent chunk of meat. The location and the layout of the restaurant are a little odd, but nothing that can't be tolerated for a half hour lunch. Many of the other comments on the reviews will tell you that the owner is very rude woman. I have been here multiple times and I have noted that she can be very direct, to the point where people would consider it rude. Example: my friend and I were having lunch. Whenever we get burgers I always take her tomatoes because she doesn't like them. Well, the owner saw that my friend took the top bun off of her Burger and then came over and wanted to tell us how important it was to always specify what you want on your burger so that food doesn't get thrown out. She assumed of course that my friend was removing some of the toppings that she didn't like after agreeing to the lettuce tomato and onions that we were asked about when ordering. Well, we weren't throwing anything out and I thought it was rather cheeky of her to come by and give us a lecture. For whatever faults she has, though, I know that the owner and her husband are VERY generous people who make huge contributions to the local community and in support of those who are needy. I just think of her as a harmless old grandma who maybe didn't take her meds that morning. If you do the same, chances are good that you won't take offense to any of these trivial things and you'll have a much...
