Lorene's Downtown — Restaurant in Bakersfield

I have been here before and the food was okay however my recent experience was horrible. I got both my children milk to drink and it tasted horrible, it was spoiled and I sent it back and got lemonade instead. I was willing to overlook that as a simple mistake until the food came out. My kids got chicken strips and spaghetti from the kids menu. The chicken strips were good, the fries were okay but had no seasoning at all. I implore you DO NOT GET THE SPAGHETTI! The sauce was more like left over chili mixed with tomato sauce or maybe ketchup and had chunks of hot dog thrown in...so nasty. My kid ate one bite and said she couldn't take another bite because it made her feel sick. I tried to scoop the sauce to the side but she just couldn't take another bite. I am not sure if these experiences had already influenced my taste and smell but when I picked up the mushroom swiss burger I ordered, it smelled like the cheese went bad. I know swiss can sometimes smell pungent but this smelled off and it wasn't even real swiss, it was pasteurized like Kraft singles style cheese. The waitress was trying and apologized for the milk but the food was just not good. I will not...

I was here 5/31/17 morning and the waitress, sorry didn't get her name, was so attentive, very nice and polite. She was figuratively standing over my table and filling my coffee cup as soon as I took a sip.

So, I decided to eat here again, today. Stood at the door, where it says wait to be sitted. First girl passing said that someone will be with me. I continued to be standing in the same spot for 5 minutes while each one of them started at my face as they passed me yet no one wanted to sit me.

Finally, I was sitted. Asked for coffee and exactly what I had yesterday. My coffee never was provided. Breakfast came and I asked for the coffee. It was brought without a word. Finished my breakfast without being asked once to refill my coffee. Finally my waitress came over and dropped the check on my table. Again, without asking how was my food, if I needed more coffee.

I pass by Lorene's cafe innumerable amount of times at day, and I always wonder what kind of experience would be to eat there. Well..today I went, and asked for steak and eggs, medium the steak, over easy the eggs. Coffee to start off, was watered down, it tasted like...nothing. Steak was cooked well done, and the eggs were already pouched and broken by the time the plate was served...I ate them, however i couldnt finish the steak. I addressed the inconvenience to the server and she said: "sorry the cook was bussy" Young lady, it takes less time to cook a medium steak than a well done. Bill was paid in full, money wasnt the inconvenience, but the food, and the answer from the server...I understand nowadays restaurants are short staffed, but in the other hand, I am the one with the money, and I wanted steak and eggs cooked the right way, not however the cook wanted because he was busy. There is never a second chance for a first impression. Sorry, only one star,...
