In town for a bible based convention and we travel with our dogs. We are always on the lookout for pet friendly food places and Saltys DID NOT disappoint! But to be fair summertime ,Bakersfield you know what I mean it's HOT . We went to the diner on Wible rd, 1st to check it out Sunday late afternoon the patio deck is nice size about 850 sq ft and misters for summer and radiant heat for winter. Anyway that Sunday was 109' and the patio is very open and that warm westward wind was flowing those misters did not stand a chance. So we decided that before we leave the following day Monday we get lunch. Temperature was 100' and the wind was tamer so those misters were doing a great job. Our dogs were doing fine we ordered combo plates chicken brisket , tri tip with sides of Mac n cheese. Coleslaw and green beans . I had chicken ,brisket and Mac n cheese and the chicken was really good ,brisket was better, macncheese was aok it said "spicy" macncheese ? My wife had brisket, tri tip and coleslaw she said it was very good, by the way we both ordered the 1/4lb servings very filling. We bought a half rac of ribs for dinner since we were traveling. Saltys very good food only drawback for me if it's a barbque food joint maybe serve some beer, but other that the sweet tea on ice was sufficient to quench the thirst wash that tasty food on down and even better I could drink Ice tea and drive....
Read moreWe travel full time across the country, and BBQ is kinda our thing, we smoke our own, but also go to local BBQ joints in every town we stay in. Sadly, CA BBQ had left us a bit disappointed. We found ourselves in Bakersfield longer than expected, so we gave CA BBQ another shot at Salty’s, and we were blown away by Salty’s. From the train car dining to the open pit out front where you can watch the pit master do his thing (so sorry I don’t have his name, because he deserves recognition)
By chance, the customer behind us at the counter having lunch with his family, turned out to be Jeff (the owner). After chatting a few minutes, we knew this was more than just BBQ, it a passion, a love for smoking meat and beyond that, there’s just something about Jeff and the crew that makes you feel at home.
Attached image is the Salty’s Special, which I had and enjoyed every bite, and yes, that’s what Guy ate when Diner’s, Drive-ins and Dives were there.
Worth noting, the wife grew up in Texas, so she is pretty particular on what a brisket should or should not be, and she was very pleased with Salty’s
If you’re in Bakersfield, GO TO SALTY’S, you will not be...
Read moreI ordered a Half of a Chicken and received 2 Legs!! When I called they said "we must have run out of White Meat", to which I Replied "In the Middle of Lunch?!" (My order was Delivered at 12:50pm!). Another guy got in the phone and we went through the same discussion, and I pointed out that Anyone would be Expecting AT LEAST a Breast, Wing and Leg; a Symmetrical Half of a Chicken. His response to Me: "Well, Technically, our menu Doesn't Say WHICH HALF"!! I Will Never spend My Hard Earned Money HERE EVER AGAIN!! $52 for 3 Ribs, about a ½ lb of Trip Tip, 2 Chicken Legs, a roll and a Salad; with An Attitude for Dessert?! No Thanks. If the food were OUTSTANDING, I MIGHT Reconsider, but there are Too Many Comparable Choices/Options at Much Better Prices!! Places that Still realize that Their Customers are The Whole Reason They Are In Business (and able to Open a 2nd location)!!
This was a Sad Reminder of How Much Customer Satisfaction and Service has Declined over the last 10-20 years!! I Never Expect Something For Nothing, but I Do Expect to get What I Paid For...Without an attitude when I point out the Obvious "Faux...
