Tofu House Korean B.B.Q. — Restaurant in Bakersfield

I drive by this place every day and have been wanting to try it. We finally went in and had a great experience. I ordered Veggie Fried Rice, my friend got the Veggie Stir Fry with Tofu and a side of white rice, and we split an order of Orange Tofu. The serving size was huge but I swallowed up that whole bowl... My friend veggies looks so good too but I didnt taste them. The orange tofu was excellent and I definitely recommend getting that in addition to you order. It wasn't to "battered"(I feel like some orange tofu dishes are heavily battered and fried) and the sauce was of course great. We got this little set up of pickled veggies and beans and other things. We honestly didn't know what they were for or how to eat them. But it was food... so we just ate them haha and it was great! I asked our server if she could explain but there was a little bit of a language barrier, but she just said what they were and we got the gist, "just eat it". Anyway, I think I found a great new restaurant that I want to go to...

Ate here to celebrate daughter's high school graduation. The first thing you notice before going inside is the "B" rating [not good].

There are a few positive things I want to mention before getting to the glaring issues: the servers were nice and some of the food items were decent. Also, nobody harassed me and my family for not wearing a mask, even though the whole staff was wearing one. I appreciate that.

The problems: 1) there was a fly bugging us during the latter half of the meal. It was irritating. 2) the prices are a bit high. 3) we were not notified up front that there were no dessert items except one. The server, although she was friendly and this was her first day, did not know what was available and had to keep checking with the kitchen. 4) there was dust and some webbing on the walls and the light fixture above us. Some chairs looked worn too.

Unfortunately, I can see why the rating is low. I hope they make the changes needed to earn an "A" rating, but either way I will not...

Updated review: had to drop this place to 2 stars from my original 5 stars. The food is still good but the service has really gone down hill. On 2 different occasions, by the same server, we were given the wrong food and made to feel like it was our fault. The first time was while sitting in the restaraunt and that was easily fixed, the second time was for take out where she forgot to include some of our food. When I called back I told her to just cancel the food we didn't get and refund the difference to our credit card. She refused to do that and said I had to come back and pick up the food. I told her I wasn't going to drive back there and get cold food. She refused so I had to dispute charges with my CC company. If you make the mistake you should be willing to fix it for your customer, if you can't do that, then you won't have customers for long. Luckily other Korean restaurant have now opened in town and this is no longer the best Korean...
