I was driving on Route 51 and knew that I would be passing by this place and made a point to find them. It was not easy! The large “Peace, Love, and Little Donuts” sign in front of their establishment completely misled me. Luckily, I caught sight of their parked food truck and was able to make a U-turn and come back to sample their wares. In other words, if you are looking for them specifically, be very much on the lookout for their location … or look for the big sign that advertises someone else! 😊
Once I found them, I noticed that they do not have any place to eat their product either. They are basically a stationary food truck. There are a few table tops (like three) and you can stand around and eat, but that’s eat. Since it turned out that the tacos were messy, I asked for a washroom to wash my hands – nope, none of that either. Sigh.
But how was the food? Well, it is inexpensive. Each taco runs around $4. It comes with two small tortillas and you can select the filling from chicken, beef, pork, and veggies. There are also nachos and – when I visited – a burrito special. You order from one window, and they deliver from another window. Hmmm… just like from most food trucks… hmmm….. Anyway, chatting with other customers who were waiting for their food, I was told that the nachos can get very messy as the cheese used gets very runny.
I ended up ordering two tacos: A chicken and a veggie one. Those two were enough to fill me up, but if you are a bigger eater, you may want to order a third as they are small, or try the nachos. The operators know about the soggy chips as they offer a disassembled nacho plate as an option. They also offer a selection of hot sauces and I opted for their hottest offering.
After a few minutes my order was ready and I dug into it. The low cost for the tacos was evident in both the size of them and their fillings. Flavor wise, they were just Ok. The hot sauce was basically Red Hot with a little extra Cayenne thrown in. I was disappointed in that – but I like very spicy food. If you are not very heat tolerant, it will probably serve you well. The best part of the whole thing was the white yogurt sauce they used to flavor both tacos. And, as stated above, they were messy, so it was a good thing they provided...
Read moreI have tried this location for Bull River Taco Co. before, and my initial review was mixed. However, trying it more, I think I have a better perspective on their menu, and I think they bring their own unique combination of value and flavor to the local Tex-Mex game!
Having tried the whole menu, each of their signature proteins offers a similar, but different flavor profile for their tacos. A regular goer could probably mix and match these to a truly unique outcome. Though, even as they are, served with a bit of citrus, all are good. Even better, they compete very strongly on price.
I think the Chicken taco as it comes is my favorite so far.
They are, as they are, straight forward soft tacos, but they keep the price down, and they're lovingly assembled. Taking them home, I don't think anyone can argue that you'll get your value out of a visit here.
I don't know their hours, but if they manage to keep their doors open a bit late, they could easily compete on late-night munchies.
My only consideration would be to skip the lent Shrimp Tacos. Not for any concerns of their quality, I just think they are the weakest of the menu offerings here. Though, being only a seasonal item, that...
Read moreI just had 2 tacos today... One pork & one beef. My boyfriend & i passed this little stand on the way home from getting my hair done on my bday (today). I checked out the stand on Google & begged him to turn around; which he eventually did...
IT WAS SOOO WORTH IT.
The pork with the bullseye sauce was so0o0o good I only wish I would have bought 2 or 3. The beef was good too... But the PORK.... OMG... nom nom😋
The service was very quick & the ladies behind the counter were very nice.
The food was packed neatly to-go & the fruit punch soda in a glass bottle ( that the ladies opened for me ) was soo cold it was crispy & refreshing. The hot sauce spread was actually kind of impressive & the decor was awesome; kind of modern with the bold typography used in the signage while still totally edgy with a southern rustic street vibe.
My bf loved the bull skulls.
The foods soo good these ladies will definitely be seeing...
