Edit review at the bottom of this review….I ordered 24 cupcakes and a double layer 12” cake for a graduation party. The cupcakes were great… very tasty. I ordered 12 chocolate and 12 vanilla. The cake was a different story. I ordered marble cake with whipped buttercream frosting. The frosting was delicious…. The cake was terrible. I don’t know what happened when they cooked it, but it was not good at all. The frosting, even though it tasted good, was sliding off the cake and the temperature in the room was not overly warm by any means. The cake ended up in the trash. I cut a couple pieces out and handed them out, then got one for myself… I couldn’t even eat it. Such a major disappointment. And it wasn’t an inexpensive cake… in total I spent 135.00. The cake was decorated beautifully. But what a major disappointment. *Edit….. Franks Bakery called me and apologized for the cake, they are unsure as to why it came out like that. Having been in service for so many years… 4th generation…. They wanted to make it right. And they did. This is why I shop local businesses… because they actually care about their customers and their products. I will continue to go to Frank’s Bakery to get my special occasion desserts, and snacks anytime the mood strikes. They will continue to have...
Read moreThis bakery has been a favorite in my husband's family since he was a child. For Father's Day, I decided I'd pre-order a couple of pies because I had heard some pretty fantastic things about their 8" all white meat chicken pies from his mother, so I figured I'd surprise him. I also ordered half a dozen of their plain glazed donuts and, to my delight when picking up our order, I discovered they also feature Baklava!!! So I ordered a couple of squares of those too. The prices are very reasonable; reasonable enough that I've decided that once or twice a month, I may just make the drive from Augusta to Bangor just for some delicious treats. We were not disappointed. The pies were delicious, the donuts were gone before I could blink (luckily I managed to snag ONE before they were all consumed) and the Baklava was heavenly. I really wish I had had the forethought to snap some pictures, but that wouldn't have done them any justice. Needless to say, I've been successfully converted. We can't wait to try their homemade ice cream. Do yourselves a favor and stop by. You won't get this quality of donuts from Dunkin. They have something for everyone, whether you have a sweet tooth or prefer something a little...
Read moreFrank's was voted best breakfast sandwich for a reason. Their biscuits are out of this world. My usual is with an over-easy egg, sauteed green pepper and onion, and American cheese. Also delicious with sausage. They make a deliciously smooth and flavorful quiche. Their new cheesecake cupcakes are to die for and there are so many flavors to choose from (but unfortunately, I suggest steering clear of any lemon varieties; I think they might use essential oil or something because they taste soapy). I also love that they offer iced coffee, which they sweeten with simple syrup instead of granulated sugar. Oh, they make their own veggie burgers, and they're really yummy, especially with the chipotle mayo. Finally, in the interest of full disclosure, I confess that I do not like their donuts. They just don't do it for me. But plenty of people love them, so give them a try. Anyway, Frank's is a Bangor institution; their recent upgrades make their bakery a really lovely spot for breakfast or lunch, and the staff members are...
