We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn. It's location is right downtown in Bangor, so you can wander around an hit a lot of hot spots for shopping, dining, and drinks. Service was phenomenal, we were having trouble with the heat in our room and the innkeeper and the maintenance man were at our door within a minute to correct the problem. They were kind and helpful throughout our stay! It's a really old building, so the rooms are also old. It's apparent that the owners take pride in the hotel and work really hard to maintain the historic building and keep the rooms clean and comfortable while maintaining a classic, historic feel. Lots of the furniture pieces throughout the hotel are antique and absolutely beautiful. The sofa and chairs in the lobby are fantastic; as were some of the pieces in our room. The building itself is beautiful and it has a very interesting history. Although the Inn may not be for everyone, we really enjoyed our stay and will certainly return. We loved the unique, historic feel of the Charles Inn and all of it's neat little quirks and personality. There is a little coffee shop attached to the inn that serves awesome coffee and treats, too. If you're looking for a regular hotel with carbon copy rooms, a pool, and a continental breakfast, you might want to stick with the major chain hotels. If you're seeking something a little more interesting and historical, I highly recommend the...
Read moreHorrifying experience. I left my mittens in the cafe within the hotel. Called and was told they would be waiting for me at the hotel desk. I arrived at 6:30pm on a Saturday as 4 men were exiting the inn. I asked one of them if they had seen the desk clerk because I was trying to pick up my mittens. As I went to pass, one of the guys grabbed me, I was startled and warned him not to touch me. Another much larger man came into the entryway and I was trapped. The smaller one who had grabbed me claimed to be the owner's son. I asked him if he could just get my gloves as I was leaving town. He told me to "Get the fk out. Now" Then both of them started screaming. They were hysterical and irrational. I said I was going to call the police. His companion then told me he was going to take my crutches and beat me with them. Then he called me a cnt. He followed up by saying he hoped I got run over by a car. ||||Additionally, they were all unmasked and screaming in my face (I was masked). ||||I am a 56 year old, 5'2" disabled woman who was merely trying to pick up my gloves. This place is an absolute nightmare. If these guys were merely guests, run. If one of them is actually the owners' son, run faster. ||||These people have no business being in the hospitality industry if they let their son and his friends behave this way towards visitors to the city. ||||I am...
Read moreI honestly don’t know how this hotel has so many positive reviews. My partner and I arrived at night and when we approached the front door to our room, the door was cracked open which didn’t feel safe. What is the point of giving us a pass code. There was dog hair and human hair on the comforter and sheets. There were small bugs on the corners of the ceilings and they also flew around. The floors were also not mopped properly and were sticky. There were stains on the curtain and the pillows. The a/c didn’t work properly.
I immediately contacted the host. Yes, they were responsive but they couldn’t do much that night expect send the cleaning person to change my sheets (pillow itself still had stains), gather the bugs from the corners of the ceiling, and put a bug plug in into the wall. There were still flying bugs and other issues with the room. They could not give me an alternative room since they were fully booked. I have video of the flying bugs but unfortunately I cannot post it here.
Lastly, there were homeless people that slept in the lobby during late night hours. This is the downside of not having staff physically at the hotel. I did not feel safe there and do not recommend anyone...
