We visited The Old Baraboo Inn on Saturday October 12th, 2024, and I feel obligated to share our experience, because all reviews that I saw of the establishment, prior to visiting, were great, so imagine my surprise when we had a bad experience.
Our mother-daughter group does this every year, and we always pick a different direction from home. We do our research, we get firsthand suggestions, etc. We heard so many amazing things about the Baraboo area, especially The Old Baraboo Inn.
We were greeted and welcomed upon walking in the door, earlier than they opened, which we were pleasantly surprised by, as it was storming outside. The folks behind the bar were very courteous, outgoing and fun to chat with.
The service itself, however, was incredibly slow. I completely understand that you are only open 1 night a week, for 6 hours, but, when a drink only has 4 ingredients, and you have to refer to the recipe sheet after each addition, I'm going to judge. Our group of 5 had 4 of their Specialty Halloween drinks, and one of us had whiskey on the rocks. The Halloween drinks were tasty and cute. The whiskey was INCREDIBLY watered down. As a bartender, I know what color whiskey is supposed to be, and it's not supposed to be damn near clear.
When that issue was brought to the female bartender (she may be the owner, I'm not certain), she didn't seem very surprised, and replaced it with a Captain Morgan and seltzer. Again, the supposed-to-be dark rum, is more of a translucent beige before the seltzer was even added to the glass.
We were very hopeful for a pleasant experience, and would have stayed much longer, had both of the drinks not been watered down. When we visit new places, we are always looking to socialize with the locals and those that run the establishments, because we always learn more things and get to know other people, but this was just a very disappointing stop.
Our group of 5 (consisting of 1 bar owner, 3 bartenders and a retired bartender), are always looking for spooky and fun things to do, and this experience really didn't hit the mark.
I truly hope that everyone else has a great experience at The Old Baraboo Inn, we...

Read moreWe go out for fish every friday night and thought we would try this place. 3/1/13. It was warm inside. The seating area is small and dark and about 5 feet from the bar. I asked for more lights but they said there was none. Just beer signs were our light. Soda is by cans only but only a dollar a can. Now for the fish. Their claim to fame is the best fish in baraboo. I thought the fish was good but cant say it is the best or worst since I dont care for corn meal breading. I asked if they had normal beer battered fish and they said no. So again I am jot sure how they won best fish when you are comparing to types. See uploaded picture. Yes the round bits are fish. I would go back if I liked corn meal fish. The fish...
