Buckle up, this is going to be a doozy.
So myself and my coworkers constantly have a debate about the perfect ratio of crumb to cake in a crumb cake. Ideally I personally believe you can’t have less than 70% crumb in the crumb cake otherwise it’s a waste of time and an insult. We all know the crumb is the reason for this treat, the cake is just there for formalities. Every now and then you’ll find a bold baker that tries 1/3 crumb to 2/3 cake and you just want to throw a hot coffee at them.
Anyway, so a rumor came in about a little place in Barnegat that makes the perfect ratio of crumb to cake ratio. I’m talking about that 80%er that will give the feeing of pure ecstasy. So I did some research around 11pm on Thanksgiving Eve on their Instagram page and decided to send them a message to inquire on their beliefs when it comes to crumb cake. Despite the hour and the night before a holiday, Lauren, the dedicated master of her craft was available to field my questions. To my surprise and delight, she shared my philosophy on crumb. It’s rare to find someone with a similar palate and affection for crumb cake.
Lauren was able to give me the availability of the shop and the days that separate flavors were available. After hearing that the shop was open on Thanksgiving, I ended my late night endeavor and went to bed like a child on Christmas Eve. Bright and early I made the voyage on Rt. 9 south to the rumored Mecca of baked goods.
The staff was helpful and friendly and recommended a lot of things but I had to let them know I wasn’t here to mess around and to give me 2 of all the different crumb cakes.
Now that my food coma has passed I am of clear mind and body to write my review. Everything about this shop was head and shoulders above the rest. The holiday has been graced with these in matched refreshing goodies.
World, her name is Lauren, this is where her crumb cakes are baked and sold, she reigns supreme. Before any other crumb cake dare challenge her they better bring their A-game. If you’re going to take a shot at the king (or queen in this instance), you...
Read moreGreat bagel shop, with much more to offer than just bagels. They make their flavored cream cheeses fresh as well. Standard Jersey breakfast fare is available, and they make an EXCELLENT pork roll, egg and cheese. Their rolls are large & always fresh, perfectly accomodating the accompanying sandwich. The bagels, by the way, are excellent as well, and are all freshly made. Many varieties!
The staff is always excellent to new, seasonal and yearlong residents alike, and make you feel welcome when you walk in the door, whether they know you or you're a first timer. I actually witnessed this firsthand today, which is why I'm writing this review. The employee was in the middle of taking my order when an elderly gentleman came over and stated this was his first visit there, and proceeded to start asking about the various cream cheeses. Being a longtime patron, she asked if I would mind waiting a minute to ring my order up while she showed him the selection, then proceeded to give him a detailed explanation of the types and contents, as there were dietary concerns the gentleman had. I know that any of the girls in there would have done the same, and I was happy to wait a few minutes so that this nice guy could get some quick info. Hopefully he turns into a returning customer.
Only thing is they only TAKE CASH, no cards accepted. There is a fee free Wawa ATM machine in the same strip mall. Totally worth it. Just be prepared for that and you should do well to visit the best bagel shop in Barnegat. Your taste buds...
Read moreMust be 5th time my order was messed up.. Order poppy bagel BEC - receive an everything bagel with egg bacon no cheese No one before me ordered an everything bagel & this has happened where the bagel was wrong or the meat was wrong or meat was burnt a few times now over the last couple years idk they’re just going down hill in my opinion idk if it’s time for Danny’s dad to retire and hire someone else to cook ?? Idk WHAT is going on.. it wasn’t even busy when I went …might just start going to dolce. It’s just that I live far enough away to where I’m not getting back in my car and driving back.. Also shouldn’t have to check everyyyy single bagel before leaving I never have had to do that anywhere else, it’s not hard to get it right esp when they repeat the order back to me and it’s correct and then they go and mess it up ! Multiple times now and we don’t go all the time we aren’t regulars nor do I know the people who work there so it’s not some weird personal issue of them doing it on purpose it’s just constant disappointment the last few...
