I've been hearing about The Knack for sometime now from students, friends and family and I finally had to give it a try! Arriving, I knew I was going to order the fish sandwich and began my order by telling the individual about my food allergy - tomatoes. After telling her, my husband ordered his food and we paid. I asked if she could kindly please let the kitchen know about the allergy - she said she put it on the slip. I know in some places the receipt and the slip that go to the kitchen are two different things, so I gave the benefit of the doubt. Going around the corner, my husband and I leaned up against the counter top and waited for our food. I love restaurants that have an open kitchen concept where the customers can watch their food be made; because with food allergies, it can be stressful trusting people to make the food you consume. Well, naturally, as I'm standing there I watch attentively as they make the food. I'm following the process and I don't see any gloves being changed or any precautions being taken. Seeing that they have phone orders too I just think that ours hasn't come up yet. Okay, time went by and I notice a combination that could be ours, again no gloves changed. My husband went to the counter and spoke to the woman, explaining the severity of the allergy. She was amazing and got all their attention, notifying them. They seemed a bit annoyed but they continued on. No gloves changed, this time there were tomatoes on the counter, one guy put them away and the other put the stragglers on a sandwich, wiped the counter with his glove and then wiped his gloves on his apron. Now, there is a lonely bun just sitting on the end of the counter, on a contaminated area. The cook then asked the gentleman where the food allergy plate was, and PUT THE PEICE OF FISH ON THE PREPARATION THAT WAS ORIGINALLY ON THE CROSS CONTIMATED COUNTER. I then approached the counter and told the woman that I am not going to take that sandwich as they just put it on the counter where the tomatoes were. She said she told them repeatedly and she was very apologetic. She turned to tell both men and they were quite noticeably annoyed. The gentleman to the left began to get a little snappy and told me they did what they were to do with allergies and I stood my ground and was like, no. He then had the audacity to tell me that next time I order to tell them about my food allergy. When I quickly replied and said I did, And she told me that it was on the slip. He then began to get a little snippy, and then when my husband was asked if he wanted his meal, he kindly replied to the woman saying no, I'll wait for my wife. The gentleman to the left then turned around took the entire tray, fish Sandwich and French fries and threw it right into the trash. Okay. I told the woman I was sorry but it is a serious allergy. We understand that it can be busy back there but allergies are serious. I didn't appreciate the attitude i received from them and I quite frankly hope they don't treat ALL food allergies quite...
Read moreFirst time here. Passing by on a trip, not too hungry but wanted to experience it based on the great reviews. We were the only customers and wanted to split a burger. They were very accommodating. Wanted to try the fries and rings and the kind clerk mentioned the portions are large, and she wasn’t wrong! Large portions and the onion rings have the perfect ratio of onion to breading. The horseradish sauce they serve with it is the perfect compliment!
The burger was cooked to perfection and very tasty. I am a pickle fan, but I wasn’t a fan of their homemade pickles. Next time I would have the pickles left off, but it’s depends on your taste.
My only disappointment was that they wouldn’t let me have half onion rings and half fries cause I really wanted to try their fries but wasn’t hungry enough to have a full order of both. Considering there were no other customers, I don’t know why they couldn’t have done that for me, but it’s OK. I won’t hold it against them and use it as a reason to come back again if I have a chance while I’m in town.
Prices are not outrageous. Fair for the quality. They don’t have fountain drinks, only bottled options. I also love that some seating has access to outlets for those running low on cell juice!
I’d definitely come back if I...
Read moreWe have been coming to the cape for over fifty years and previously eaten at their Cook restaurant which was always good. Knack is at least a good if not better. The premises are attractive, the service is excellent, the prices are appropriate for the food offered. We have eaten at every competing restaurant within five miles, and none can come near to Knack. The food is outstanding. Those individuals who complain about not having fries on the side ought to get a life. Their fries are exceptional, and the portion is generous, so if you want “run of the mill fries” go elsewhere. Everything we have eaten has been top notch. I particularly loved the fried Clams. I often eat fried clams at several of the north of Boston Clam shacks and Knacks are better. My wife says the fish sandwich is superb. As for prices let me say everything seems expensive these days but the value here given the overall offerings is quite good. We are leaving our cape house tomorrow but will return this fall and Knack will be...
