I went solo for lunch and the service started great. I was seated right away and received my salsa and chips, water with a lemon in a to-go cup as I asked for, immediately. My server took my lunch order: two hard-shell beef tacos with rice and beans for 10 ish dollars. Since tomatoes don't come on my tacos, I asked for tomatoes which was an additional 50 cents. I started to eat the salsa and chips which was very good. Just season perfect for me. Then my food came and it looked appetizing and tasted good. After about 3 bits I started to feel a little funny in my tummy and throat. I went to the bathroom to cough and use the bathroom and came back to my table and noticed my salsa had been dumped on my plate. My chips and fork I was using were gone. Someone had brought me a new set of silverware and fresh salsa. I just look at my plate and realized Someone had dumped the bowl of salsa on my plate and had moved things around on the table, but no one said anything to me. I asked for my server who informed me, (only after I asked) that they thought I had left and they had touched my food. Of course, I didn't feel comfortable to finish my meal. I was not happy and asked the server what were they going to do. He said they could make me some more food, but by this time I didn't trust nor did I want to keep eating. I was/am very disappointed that they would assume I wouldn't notice someone had touched my food, dumped salsa on my plate, and not tell me and look to see if I would notice. This was very tacky, nasty, and unacceptable service. I liked this place but am very scared to go back. Because if they will do me like this(I do feel it was a mistake, but do not tell me) I don't trust the service. By the way, something made me feel sick as soon as I started eating within 15 minutes. This picture is what I left at my table when I went to the bathroom. My salsa had been dumped on my plate and my fork...
Read moreThis was my first visit to El Mezcal and my last. Came here around 630pm and it wasn't terribly busy. We were taking our two kids out to eat before late night bowling.
Upon arrival, I first noticed this place was cramped. Everything is so compacted in the restaurant, moving around proved difficult. We were seated pretty quickly and got our chips and salsa quickly as well. Drinks took a minute to get, but we were patient.
Looked over the menu and noticed the prices were a little high compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area. I figured maybe the portions would make up for it. I was wrong.
Started off with a medium cheese dip. Very small for what i paid. It was basically a cup for about $8.50. All good, I wasnt upset about it. I ordered the Arroz con Pollo, which is diced chicken over a bed of rice smothered in white cheese sauce. Fajita veggies were an extra $3. So it was $16.99. The Mexican restaurant down the street only charges $11.99 for the same dish. The one by my house charges $13.99 but it comes with shrimp, chicken, and steak. Oh well, we gotta eat.
However, when we got our meals, the portions were so, so small. My daughter got a kids taco salad ($10.50) and it was barely filled. My wife got an enchilada rancheras and it only took up half the plate and had very little pork. My dish had barely any chicken, veggies, or cheese sauce on it and the portion was so small. I venture to say the restaurant down the road is almost 50% bigger in portion size. Was very disappointed.
Went to pay the check ($70) and when I got my receipt, I noticed it was $2 more than what the receipt was. They didn't tell me, but there's a charge to use a card. I get it, a lot of places do that, but it would have been nice to know or have signage stating such and I would have just paid cash.
Overall, it was a very disappointing visit and we won't...
