We got to Ragin’ Cajun at 7:00pm on a Friday. I like what they have done to the place! We used to come to this restaurant when it was El Idolo. It was easy to get in and get sat. We didn’t have to wait. We DID have to wait a long time to be greeted by our server. We finally asked another server if we had a server, and she got our drink order and went and found our server. When our server brought our drinks she apologized, and asked if she could get us anything else. It was weird that she didn’t greet us or tell us her name or anything. We told her that we hadn’t been there before and that we didn’t really know what was good. She offered some suggestions for appetizers. The Boudin Balls and the Crawfish Queso. We got the Boudin Balls. They came very quickly and they were delicious! The sauce that they come with is really good! We finished those and had to wait another lengthy time for her to come and get our entree order. She finally came and we ordered, and asked for refills on our drinks. She was quick to get them! Food came fairly quickly too! I got the crawfish and andouille pasta, and my husband got the seafood platter. My pasta was bland, and disappointing for a “Cajun” pasta. I wanted to ask them to dump some Old Bay in it, but I just added salt…still not great. My husband’s food was decent. Your ordinary fried seafood platter. Fried catfish, crawfish and shrimp with fries and coleslaw. Finished those, and ordered their bread pudding. Delicious! We both decided that we will come back for the bread pudding and the Boudin Balls…But that is all. We got the ticket and checked out in a timely manner. Didn’t get offered another refill. Signed, ex-server, sick of getting...
Read moreWent for dinner tonight with my wife and sisterinlaw, and we were extremely disappointed. We Started with the crawfish queso off the recommendation of our server, and it was not good in any way. The queso seemed like cheap movie nacho cheese, and the crawfish tasted off. For dinner, I ordered blackened chicken pasta with a side of red beans and rice. The pasta itself was ok, but the chicken was very bland and dry. They also topped it with raw bell peppers which didn't help anything. The red beans and rice just wasn't good, I don't have anything else to say about it. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits, the shrimp was also bland and the grits were overcooked and topped with raw bell peppers. Her side of etouffee was decent. Nothing special, but not bad. My sister in law had the same dish that I had and the same side as my wife. Our server was very friendly, and attentive to our needs. I really appreciated that. The restaurant itself seemed clean. I don't usually leave negative reviews because sometimes a dish just isn't going to do it for you, but this time I think it's needed. We tried the restaurant because of the great reviews, and were very disappointed. None of us enjoyed the food at all. My wife and sister in law both got to go boxes for their food, then decided on the way home to just throw the food away. Unfortunately, tonight just turned out to be a waste of...
Read moreI normally don't leave reviews, but this really left me sad I hadn't chosen a different restaurant for dinner, pretty sure the two stars are being generous. We ordered some takeout and the prices are outrageous for what we got. We tried the boudin balls and they were tasty, but for over $11 with tax it was 4 tiny balls between the size of a ping pong ball and a golf ball. The chicken on the blackened chicken pasta was pretty tasty and their was a good amount of crawfish on the crawfish and andouille sausage pasta, but on both the noodles were a little overcooked and the sauce was so bland we had to dump a ton of Parmesan on it (which did not come with the food). Neither of them came with any bread as shown in the pictures. At Half Shell for the same price you get a far better Cajun pasta, plus a side, and a roll. Even Bahama Breeze has a superior blackened chicken pasta that at least includes some asparagus. The gumbos sound tasty and would love to try them but for $10-11 with tax FOR A CUP.... No way. $50+ for two disappointing pastas and a tiny portion of tiny boudin balls, one and done for us, won't be...
