On 18 May, a friend of mine and I decided to drive eight hours to Baton Rouge Louisiana for muffuletta sandwich from Anthony‘s as per the reviews. We decided this would be the best place to eat A muffuletta sandwich. We placed the order with a very friendly hostess. Once we received our food, an older lady perceived to be the owner, asked us to please go outside with our food with our service dogs. I informed her I have severe injuries and must have a service dog with me at all times in case I have an episode, Without going into details of my Medical conditions. I reluctantly complied and took my food outside with my dog. The friendly hostess brought me a dessert in apology for the inconvenience, I don’t eat sugar products at all due to my medical conditions, It was a friendly gesture. The sandwich was absolutely amazing. You could not have a butter muffaletta sandwich then what Anthony sells. However, I digress. To send me outside with a service animal in which I did show them my ID badge for myself and the dog. This is a violation of federal law. As per federal law organizations, the serve the public generally must allow serves animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is normally allowed to go. I am writing this review to inform any disabled people that want to visit this restaurant to know that you’re going to be asked to b seated outside, And she was extremely insistent. I only complied as to not cause a disturbance with the existing patrons in the restaurant. My attorney has been notified and I’m waiting for further advice as to how to handle this situation. I served our country for 22 years as an Army ranger to be sent outside with my service dog to eat. I do, however, recommend this restaurant for the best Muffuletta...
Read moreAfter a long day on the road, we were looking forward to our first meal in Baton Rouge, and Anthony’s seemed like a great pick. We love mom-and-pop places and enjoy Italian food, so the glowing reviews and long history had us excited.
The staff was warm and friendly, and we appreciated the welcoming atmosphere. That said, we wish someone had advised us more strongly on portion sizes—while the comment “Y’all are going to have a lot of food” was made, we didn’t realize just how much. One Muffoletta would have been plenty for the two of us.
We ordered the New Orleans Style Muffoletta, the Godfather, and a stuffed artichoke. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to our expectations. The sandwiches were average, and the stuffed artichoke was especially disappointing—it was so tough and fibrous that I couldn’t eat it, despite really wanting to enjoy it. I have fond memories of my mother preparing tender artichokes when I was young, and this one didn’t compare.
One Muffoletta could easily serve a family of four with average appetites, perhaps with a side or two to share for those with heartier appetites.
I do wish the size of the sandwiches had been explained to us, especially since we mentioned to the person taking our order that it was our first time visiting.
We decided to give dessert a try, thinking we couldn’t go wrong with a classic cannoli—but unfortunately, we were disappointed once again. It lacked flavor and just didn’t hit the mark.
We’re not sure if we just ordered the wrong items, given how many people seem to love this place. If we’re ever back in the area, we might give it another try and go for something from the pasta...
Read moreItalian Deli's are, by their design, bastions of deli-meat heaven...luscious, flavorful, and lip-smacking. As I travel, on business, these types of deli's are always on top of the list, and Anthony's certainly delivered. The sandwich, The Italian Lover, held together by a soft Italian bread, had a solid selection of cured meats with some veggies (lettuce & marinated onions), topped with a slightly-sweet oil dressing, possibly balsamic-based. The sandwich is then put on a heated panini press. The resulting, toasted, 'wich, came through with the sweet, salty, pickled yumminess that is an Italian sub. There's definitely an eat-in option and a nice patio section up front to enjoy your meal. Staff was polite and I had my order in less than 10 min. If you're a local there are certainly pre-made dishes you can take home and enjoy in front your TV and latest binge-fest. The price was fair for the meal and the atmosphere was that a "local" haunt. Certainly worth returning and enjoying...
