I am so disappointed but it’s not at Mid City Beer Garden at all. I love this place SO much. My husband and I plan a trip to Baton Rouge every year for an LSU game and this place is a staple… I looked forward to their beer selection and pretzel for months. Last year I was pregnant and they even had a non-alcoholic pumpkin beer on tap… which was amazing!
I couldn’t wait to come here (as soon as they opened) and have ONE pumpkin beer, and delicious bar eats with my little family this year. We are fleeing a hurricane from a large coastal city, where we have never been kicked out of a bar or restaurant since he has been born. We take him out all the time, go as soon as they open, don’t stay for long, I step out if there’s even a hint of fussiness but he’s overall very chill and was literally asleep today.
Come to find out, this city has a law that prevents any establishment that classified as a “bar,” based on alcohol vs food sales from allowing under 21. Some tragedy that happened to an LSU student has led to a completely asinine law that actually just prohibits young families from enjoying game day with their children, and parents in town for game day from being able to grab some bites and beer with their

Let's start with the beer garden aspects... There is no real beer garden food, only a brat and a pretzel. There's barely any food selection at all, most of it just pub food. The brats are anemic, the pretzels are only okay. As for the beer, only 11 of the 59 beers are from Europe; only 3 of those are from Germany.
Onto the service aspects. I was served food with no silverware or napkins. The food comes out incredibly quickly. But while they serve fancy cocktails like a sazerac, the bartenders aren't at that level--mine cut the citrus peel to include the bitter pith, spoiling the drink.
Management: The parking situation is unclear, despite a sign out front. Their POS is unable to flex people moving from table to bar, and vice versa. The Wi-Fi thankfully does not require login or email registration or click to accept anything!!! More places need Wi-Fi systems like this!!! They invite people to watch the football game, but there are just a few less than enough TVs, and while the audio system was great for bar music, the game audio wasn't understandable AT ALL.
This is not a place to watch the game. It's just a place to drink esoteric domestic beer in Mid-City and eat a small selection of food that is just okay. Go to Chimes. You'll get more beer from Germany, more TVs, better sound, more food selection, and a clear...
Read moreFound this spot while looking for fun brunch options in Baton Rouge and was not disappointed! The brunch menu isn't very expansive but the one option my wife and I tend to get, the breakfast burrito, is amazing on the days when the cook preparing it is on their game; the quality of the cook varies depending on who's in the kitchen that day, but even when it's off it's pretty good. They have a very large & impressively categorized beer menu with some very nice craft beer options!
It has a spacious outdoor seating area with an open-sky patio in the center, and appears to cater to couples & otherwise parties without children.
One critique that I will offer is the extremely strict admittance policy which I've not encountered outside of nightclubs (back in the day), and that is they turned my wife and I away the first time we attempted to patron the place because we brought our toddler with us. They card you at the door even if you have salt & pepper in your beard and they absolutely will not admit children, even if you aren't attempting to sit at the bar (inside).
If you are a younger couple or a party of college students this spot is a very nice brunch (or otherwise) option, but if yours is a family-type situation, scratch this place off your list if your kids do not have...
