Even if I were a dedicated critic, taking in everything I experience in hopes of finding fault with any aspect of it, I doubt I could have come up with anything to complain about with this establishment. Every one of the staff I came in contact with was a pleasant blend of professionalism, courtesy, friendliness, and enthusiasm. Although I didn't order much that time, the gumbo and potato salad I did get to sample were both superior to anything one can purchase from the store, whether it is found in the frozen section, the deli, or even the sample stalls where the product you're allowed to taste always seems so much more delectable at the store than at home. I've been to many dining establishments, from McDonald's down the street to Spiaggia in Chicago, and the total dining experience R&R offers thus far ranks it very near the top, on par with fine dining establishments that are far more expensive. In terms of taste alone, R&R rivals Bellue's on Scenic. In addition to the areas in which restaurants are usually reviewed, R&R also offers a veteran's discount. No other establishment in my memory shows good ol' American patriotism in this way, and that little extra "thank you" for the time I spent in the United States Navy gave Rice & Roux the final push to become my personal #1 local favorite place to go for a...
Read moreI’m from BR but moved to Dallas, came home to visit and decided to eat here based on the great reviews. This place was disgusting and I’ll never return, the only good thing is they honored my military discount. I ordered the Friday special of shrimp fettuccine with a side of red beans, a salad and cornbread, my son ordered the kids jambalaya. The shrimp was tiny frozen shrimp I expect good fresh seafood in Baton Rouge, the sauce was runny, and the noodles were hard and cold. I’ve never seen red beans prepared like this absolutely zero flavor, it’s obvious they were from a can and they don’t serve rice with it. The “salad” was just iceberg lettuce from the bag on the plate, the dressing was in packet like ketchup. The jambalaya for my son, a child’s plate, had one chunk of meat in it that had to struggle to shred himself, also not tasty. The presentation of this meal was very sloppy, I felt like I was in a school cafeteria. We probably would have been better off grabbing a frozen dinner from the Walmart...
Read moreI am changing my review of Rice and Roux. I originally gave them a 5 star review. Then I recently ordered my favorite pork and sausage jambalaya and paid for it at the time of ordering. As I was a frequent customer I knew that there was a 90 minute wait time for the pork and sausage jambalaya. I waited and the drove to Rice and Roux to pick up my jambalaya was told “we made it but we sold it to somebody else would you like to substitute chicken and sausage?” Of course my answer was no and told the to make sure they refund the money I paid. I then went down ONeal Lane and got jambalaya from the Jambalaya Shoppe. The manager called me the other day asked what could she do to have me go back to Rice and Roux. I told her she would have to tell me how they make that pork and sausage jambalaya. She wouldn’t tell me which was okay. What she did do was give me a credit on my account and was going to investigate to find the employees involved. All is good and I do not have to eat that gummy Jambalaya Shoppe...
