UPDATE No. 2… really trying to like this place, but no luck. Went back today (8/10/25) for brunch and my order was hardly edible. Had the biscuits & gravy… biscuits were hard/tough, very little (if any) sausage in the gravy and the eggs were crispy and rubbery. Absolutely horrible. Sorry guys… Cool place / Horrible Food. UPDATE… went back to give “The Burger” a second chance. All I can say is “Nothing to see here”! Nothing has changed… our server was nice, but gone when you needed her, took longer than usual to get our food and then it wasn’t cooked right. We ordered 2 burgers, 1 medium rare and one medium… they both came out very “Well Done!” I would have sent it back, but couldn’t find our server. We shared our situation, regarding our food, with our server when we asked for the check. She replied that they were training the cook and he wasn’t “quite getting it”! 🤔 Well, that’s 2 strikes for the Overpass Merchant… really trying to like this place, but they are making it very hard. Nice little gastropub with outside seating. Inside is loud and crowded with a small bar area. Service is very good and the food was good. Went specifically to try “The Burger”… a blend of Chuck, Brisket and Short ribs. It was good, not great. I was a little suspect when I saw they owned “Curbside” (one of the worst burgers I had recently). Good cocktails. Nice place to go for snacks and drinks on the patio.

We walked in and were blown away by the atmosphere. It was lovely inside. Our server was prompt and attentive and friendly. Good drinks. Cheese curds were very, very good. The main brunch dishes were all subpar with the exception of the kale caesar salad, which was very good and a good serving size for a side. The honey butter chicken biscuit was flavorless: the chicken was dry and had zero flavor, and the biscuit was underbaked and mushy. It needs more ingredients to make it saucy and full of flavor and texture. Shrimp and grits were swimming in sauce that was too strong of a vinegar flavor and the grits were very hard. The breakfast burrito was inedible due to the fatty chunks of bacon and the carmelized onions - they were sickly sweet like marmalade but also smelled really bad like sauerkraut - nothing resembling onions. The standard breakfast plate was fine, but again the grits were rock hard so weren't eaten. The hashbrowns were boring and flavorless. It was very disappointing because the atmosphere was so amazing. The bar area would be great to return to for a drink and cheesecurds, but we wouldn't come back for a meal.

I had a wonderful time today showing some friends from out of the states this place. It's my go-to for the past two years for folks coming from out of town as it's a very attrative venue where the prices are still reasonable. Our server today was top notch and nailed every second of service. The food was wonderful, filling and prepared perfect to our order. The Cheese curds were also very very good as an appetizer and was enough for the 4 of us to share. Ya might need too if your party is hungry, but the meals are huge. It feels like it has gotten better everytime i've gone which is crazy now that I think about it. We had the flounder sandwich with truffle fries and the chicken sandwich this time, both delicious and filling. We'll be back. Parking under the underpass itself can be a bit tricky, but there are lots of spaces, watch out for potholes.

On Sunday 2/19, my husband and I tried this place for the very 1st time. Food was very tasteless, so much so I could not eat it! Needless to say what a waste of our money. To our lack of judgment, we should've seen the red flags once the waiter approached our table. She seemed less than happy to be at work. The importance of conversing with staff in what seems to be contentious conversations was more important than bringing us condimentd needed for our order. At first I thought it was just us but then I saw her interaction with each table she was assigned to, deplorable character, no friendly face, just seemed bothered to do a job she opted for. We begin to further observe and noticed the entire staff of ladies seemed to be in a disagreement with the young lady who was the hostess at the door. They were argumentative with her, each in their own way. At some point one of the ladies was using very foul language towards her. The young hostess did her best to ignore and try not to be combative in front of customers but they each were relentless with reproach. As we left I asked if it was ok to give her some encouraging words and just stated to her to not allow terrible people to impact her day and wished for her day to progress. She smiled and was thankful. 1st and last time visiting this place. Beautiful aesthetics, terrible...

I visited this place for the first time last night with a friend. Our server was very polite and helpful to my friend but short of taking my order pretty much ignored me. She never once asked if I needed a refill but made sure that my friend's cup was always full. When I asked about their Sunday brunch and other menus she gave all of her answers to my friend instead of addressing me directly(the only one who asked). At the end of our meal I asked her to please bring ME the check. She looks at my friend and asked if the checks would be separate or not. I answered her question again and asked her to put everything on one ticket and give the check to me. She comes back with the check and puts it in the middle instead of just giving it to me as I had asked. I am always looking for new and interesting places to eat all over Baton rouge but this experience makes me question if it is worth a second visit; which is disappointing because as far as the food goes the two for one burger deal was a great deal and the burgers were delicious as were the brussel sprouts. I am baffled at how someone whose majority income comes from how well they serve their guest can behave...
