TLDR: Roach found in food. Owner still charged us half price.
Stopped at the Old China Super Buffet at dinner time with my husband around 7:00 PM. Originally wanted to go to the Japanese restaurant just down the road next door, but they were closed (even though they said open on Google maps). Came in, both of us ate one plate. I finished just before him, and left to grab a second plate of food. While I was loading up my plate, my husband grabbed my arm and brought me back to the table to show me his plate. In the sauce (I believe either General Tsao or Honey chicken sauce) was what was CLEARLY a cockroach (body shape, antennas, 6 legs with little spindles off of it). My husband immediately brought this to the owner's attention, who inspected it and then initially claimed it was just a part of a vegetable. After my husband refuted this, the owner then conceded that it was an insect, but not a roach... The owner's explanation was that sometimes the vegetables from Meijer still have some insects on them but not to worry about it and he would only charge us for one person instead of two. My husband and I decided to just pay for the one plate (as he was given a daily meal stipend by the company he was training with while we were up here in Battle Creek). If we did not have that stipend, we would have fought even the one plate charge of almost $15. In the end, we just drove down the street and got Arby's instead. I was craving Chinese food (I'm 7 months pregnant...) but was far more happy to eat any food that did not contain insects in it. Honestly, this experience has turned me off from all buffets.
EDIT after some more research about Cockroaches: Wherever they travel, cockroaches leave a path of urine, feces, and regurgitated saliva and digestive fluids that contain harmful agents that can be transmitted to humans. These agents can cause E. coli, listeria, cholera, salmonella, typhoid, urinary tract infections, digestive problems, and sepsis.
This is a MAJOR health violation! Listeria can be especially dangerous to pregnant women (can cause miscarriages in the first trimester, stillbirths, and even preterm labor)! Thankfully, I do not believe I chose the same chicken on my first plate as my husband did, but who is to say that there were not traces of these diseases in any of the other foods? Thankfully, my baby is healthy and fine (I had an OBGYN appointment in early November after this incident and everything is fine, very active with a strong heartbeat).
ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE and could...
Read moreThis use to be my all time favorite Chinese place. But things have definitely changed for the worse. Not only was the food horrible and limited selections, the service was unimaginable. The younger lady at the desk, who takes customers to the table , is the only person I have ever seen interact and be polite recently. This week I had went to dinner with my mom and my young daughter. At one point my daughter had even said hi to the waitress and she ignored her completely . She throws fits . Which is normal for a child her age . But however I did feel the need to take her outside due to the entire staff giving me a horrible look. She finally got calmed down, so we came back to the table to enjoy our food . My daughter had taken a liking to the sugar packets! She was shaking them around while eating, but she was being calm so I was all for it. Next thing I know, the dullest, rudest lady came to our table , without a single word, reached all the way across the table, across all of our food, AND TOOK THE SUGAR OUT OF HER HAND!!!!! It was at that exact moment we got up and left . We could tell that my daughter was not welcome there . They never smiled at her or us. They never talked to her or us. This place is 100% not a place for kids. And after that experience, I will not be back as well. No restaurant should make their guests feel like a complete burden as this place made us feel . Will never...
Read moreIm going to start this by saying they where about 1 hr till close and so they had stopped restocking the buffet. Out of about 15 food dishs only 4 or 5 had any food at all in them. It was pretty empty the few things that where there where old, hard or just plain not cooked well. However there where 2 things i found they did very well at when it comes to food. The egg drop soup was great and there salmon was also great. The where basickly the only edible thing left aside from the salad bar. So i enjoyed a bowl of soup with some salmon. The manager or owner i am unsure did take 10% off the bill and interrupted our meal to have us pay early so he could close out his till. The floors had food and trash and aside from 1 other guest we where the only ones there... i did nit enjoy my experience but in a attempt to be fair and recognize that it was nearing closing time i will try to return during mid day at some point and give it another try in hopes that i just visited at the worst time. I would not recommand this place at this...
