I enjoy all the ladies that work at Lux Cafe, they are extremely polite and helpful. They all try to accommodate each and every customer that comes thru the doors. I remember goin to Columbia Avenue site before they changed locations and names. The restaurant used to occupy the former Ponderosa restaurant location, there they were Lakeview Famoly Restaurant. The name remained the same when they moved to where they are now on SW Capital. Then the name changed to Lux Cafe, the restaurant used to be open later. I suggest Lux's to people I meet or ask about a good place for good food and variety. There haven't been alot of eateries in Battle Creek that offered breakfast, lunch or dinner at anytime thru out the day. Now there are alot of places that offer th these options, at Lux's there are an array of menu choices to choose from. Where else can you go and have pork chops and eggs, yes steak and eggs is the norm but, pork chops YUM!!!! The portions are also worth the trip to eat at Lux's, having options of pancakes or toast with your breakfast. Sandwiches and meals that offer one or two sides. I always say if anyone leaves Lux's hungry, is because they ordered something small like a side of fruit and cottage cheese with toast. Not that there's anything wrong with order what you want big or small. The staff at Lux's wants all their customer's to enjoy their experience, and want to return again and tell friends, family and those they know and meet. At Lux's there are so many regular customer's that feel like their coming home to family, for all the home cooked meals that all enjoy. There are some of us that staff Emily, Melanie, Tina, Penny, Summer and Stephanie just some of the server's I've come to know, who know what their regulars like and will usually order when we come in. All the hostesses also go above and beyond to help always with a smile, that makes you feel very much welcomed and at home with your experience. Jimmy and Bill are also helpful and make sure that each customer regular or new receives quality food and service. I will continue to eat Lux's and suggest them as well as other eateries for as long as I'm able. Be prepared if you order 1 egg you'll get 2, unless you ask for just 1. The skillets come out in an actual skillet and the omelets are filling along with so many other options to choose from. You can choose from a variety of foods to choose from on the menu. So if you make it thru this small book lol, I'd suggest you give them a try. Be aware though that they get extremely busy at times and on certain days, especially Saturday's and Sunday's. They open at 6:30am and close at 2:30pm, the doors are locked at 2:00pm to allow staff time to assist customers already in the restuarant, and to be able to restock tables, clean up and prepare restuarant for the next days service. They also offer carry out orders, for those who have busy schedules and are not able to come in...
Read moreThis is not a bash the Lux Cafe review, only my personal opinion. I completely respect the other reviews and the cafe itself. This is based on 3 visits of mine 2 breakfast and 1 lunch. Breakfast #1 My first breakfast was the meat lovers scramble. Waitress was polite, coffee was good, the service was fast but the scramble was not. It was basically an over done egg pancake with a bunch of meat put in it. The amount of grease and over done browned egg offered no flavor. The toast was obviously buttered with a paint brush or bbq swab because it was puddled on heavy enough to wring it out of the toast. The portion was huge, way to much to eat.
Breakfast #2: I ordered 2 scrambled eggs, pattie sausage, a ham slice, hash browns and white toast. Same thing, service was fast, waitress was polite, the place is clean and roomy. But the food was not good at all. It’s been 4 hours since I left the restaurant and my stomach is still upset from the grease and excess butter. My eggs were flat and cooked like a pancake in what I’m assuming was the grease from my sausage, my sausage was under cooked and had no flavor and was extremely greasy, the hash browns were typical run of the mill shredded hash browns with very little crust or flavor. The toast was beyond soaked with butter again. I actually folded it on my napkin and pressed it with my fork to get rid of the excess butter. I know a lot of people like the place and it’s a nice restaurant, and the staff are polite and it’s fast and fair priced but man, grease grease grease, and I’m a farm raised gravy hound.
My lunch was better, I ordered a gyro and it was good. Not boots off great but an expected gyro. I would not hesitate to have lunch again but no more breakfast. A little more time and detail to breakfast and it...
Read moreThe food is decent, at best. I ordered a Monty Cristo last time I was in. TERRIBLE!! First of all, a staple of a Monty Cristo is it being deep fried, it was not. It was simple a ham & Swiss sandwich, and a terrible one at that. The Swiss cheese was disgusting. It also was served with ZERO raspberry jam in which to dip the non-existent deep fried Monty. When I asked the waitress why there is no jam, she looked at me like I had three heads. I pushed the sandwich aside, after two bites. The waitress asked if I wanted a box and I told her that I wanted nothing to do with that dish and it was one of the worst things I’d ever eaten. She simply said okay and took it away. I reveled in the idea of at least being able to fill my stomach on the side bowl of clam chowder I ordered as well. This chowder was equally terrible. It had MAYBE two pieces of clam and the only taste that could be identified was the taste of flour from the many, many clumps of unmixed flour, presumably from the batch of chowder’s rue stage.
This morning, I just spent 10 mins calling to place the take-out order. They just continued to hang up to phone, ending the call. I am not sure if they were just hanging up or if they only have the one line for their credit card machine, I don’t know. I kept getting a “User Busy” message on my phone. So, I think I’m done with this place. I was going to order an omelet and some pancakes, which they do a decent job on. Their pancakes are great.
Their breakfast they seem to have a decent handle on. It’s anything outside of the basics they seem to...
