Happy Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Battle Ground

My girl friend and I were craving great Chinese food so we decided to revisit the good experience we had at the Happy Family Restaurant.

We ordered two combos which tasted great. But, only an hour or so after, while at home, both of us were running to the bathroom throughout Monday night, Tuesday morning and early Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, morning I decided to bring the leftovers back to the restaurant and tell the owner we got food poisoning which effectived us for almost 48-hours!

When I arrived the waitress that served us, and recognized me, was on the phone taking an take out order. When she was finished I told her we got sick after our dinner. She said she will speak with the owner.

A lot of screaming took place near the kitchen and then the waitress came out and said the owner said "no." My goal was to only let the owner know we got sick.

I didn't ask for anything.

Then a woman came near the register and I explained we contracted food poisoning. She suggested we should get a refund.

Then the owner came out and he was yelling at the waitress then inspected the three containers of left over food we returned. Then he faced me with anger and I asked "what?"

Then the other woman, an employee, said to me again, "you should get a refund" and told the owner also.

The owner still speaking loud progressed to the register and to my surprise began to count bills that totaled our dinner receipt.

Then to my astonishment, after the owner counted out the bills, he screamed at me, "Don't come back!"

The one star is strictly because of the customer service. The food is always really good. I happen to like sweet and sour sauce with my meal. Every single time I either get take out or dine in the same young lady makes it as hard as she can for me to get some. Today I purchased to go. I asked very nicely if I could please have sweet and sour sauce. She told me that she already put it in the bag, I glanced in saw a small to go container and thanked her very much and told her I really appreciated it. When I got home, thinking that what I had was sweet and sour I poured it on my food. Come to find out if was not sweet and sour. Ruined the whole meal. I am a frequent customer and she knew exactly what I wanted. Why she is like this, I don't know. I always tip her well and am very nice to her. Happy Family offers a wonderful Americanized chinese comfort food experience. The lunch special that they offer on weekdays is very hard to beat, and you certainly get your money's worth. As time has gone on, Happy Family has upped their portion sizes to keep regular customers coming in, as the store has fallen on slightly harder times, especially with the pandemic.

The only reason that I don't rate Happy Family a full five stars is due to the condition of their dining area. Christmas lights were still strung around the ceiling in spring and some of the seats are held together with duct-tape. I am unaware of the conditions of the bar, but the bathrooms are rather dirty too. Just avoid using the bathrooms if you can, and you'll find that Happy Family is a comfortable place to enjoy...
