Today my family wanted to go to Sandcastle Diner. It's always been one of our favorite diners in the area. We called 40 minutes in advanced and asked if they could accommodate a table of 10 for a certain time. We spoke with someone named Justine who said they could accommodate us. We arrived at the time we agreed upon and told them that we called ahead for a table of 10. The woman at the counter rudely said "well you didn't call here." After we told her the name of the person we spoke to, she then was quiet and said that Justine hadn't informed her of the call ahead. They said we would have to wait about 15-20 minutes and didn't even apologize for the misunderstanding or for being rude. We went into the waiting area to wait and explain to the rest of our family why we were waiting. My aunt said to the rest of our family that the situation was a bit disappointing. The owner overheard us talking amongst each other and raised his voice at us saying "it's our policy that we don't take call aheads. I don't know what to tell you. We're busy, where do you think you can sit in there? I'll wait for an answer." This was extremely rude and unnecessary, especially since it was not our fault that their employee had made a mistake. We know sometimes people make mistakes and we were going to continue waiting. However, the attitude and condescending tone of the owner was very disheartening. He was raising his voice at 2 middle aged women in front of my grandmother and a toddler. We will never go there again and we think others should be...
Read moreOK, I really don't know what the hell people are thinking when they leave positive reviews about this place! I've given this place 3 separate chances to get it right. First time was breakfast with a friend. I had something pretty hard to screw up. 2 eggs over easy, sausage, and hashbrowns. Eggs were fine, but the sausage were 2 tiny links that seemed to be microwaved! I asked for the potatoes to be cremated because I LOVE them well done. Came out underdone and soggy. My friend got a 3 egg omelette that looked pathetic and one egg short! Not cheap either! I was there yesterday and ordered a Reuben. For almost $10 pretty disappointing. Dried out paper thin meat with what seemed like one alive of Swiss on top. Greasy untoasted rye bread underneath. Seemed like the sauerkraut wasn't drained enough before putting in on the bread. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the pickle! I'm not even kidding. I grew up in Brick Twp. And the Rainbow diner or the Ocean Queen are far, far superior. I didn't think diners in NJ could put out food this bad! Or if you live in the Toms River area, go to the diner on the corner of rt 37 and 166. Not 100 percent sure of the name, but less expensive and SO much better! I never go out of my way to leave comments this long, but it's still unimaginable to me that a diner could...
Read moreused to go here all the time because the food is good. the owner (female) was very rude to me so I wont be returning.
i was doing a pickup order and am chronically ill. my medication causes me to be forgetful and i left my wallet home.
i asked the counter person working if they can take payment over the phone as id have my mom call it in. he said yes.
the owner who was off duty chimed in and said she “doesnt know about that”, i went to plead my case and she turned around and stopped paying attention completely. she then went to leave the restaurant with an older woman close to 90 years old.
i held the door for them to leave at which point she stopped in the middle of the dooryway to have an entire conversation with someone else that lasted over 90 seconds. this prevented others from entering or exiting the restaurant. carrying yourself “like you own the place” is NOT to be taken literally. she did not thank me for holding the door.
kid goes to take my payment and she comes back in to stop him and say “we have to wait for the other owner”
meanwhile i explained the food was getting cold and i wouldnt be returning for it a second time because i haaaaate when people waste food.
they wouldnt sell the food and were mean to a long time...
