Voelker's Steak House — Restaurant in Beaver Dam

Took my mom on a date last Saturday night in Beaver Dam. First time at this Supper Club/Steakhouse! You definitely will be taken back in time at this one. It it wasn't for the sign that was lite up... from the outside it looks like an abandoned old building. I tried to sneak some pictures to show you the retro, back in time decor. I'm pretty sure the locals there thought I was strange snapping pictures during my visit 🤔 It's a bar that has a dining room. The salad bar is excellent and has a great selection. Food was decent portion. Both my Mom and I thought our food was delicious, we enjoyed it. Steak came out just as we ordered. Mom ordered mushrooms on her steak, but didn't get them. Not the end of the world-I shared mine! I got a Brandy Old Fashion Sweet, but I personally didn't like it. My mom had one but a sour and she didn't say she didn't like it. We were too full to get an after dinner drink or dessert (shouldn't have filled up on the salad bar items,🤣 there were alot to chose from). Wait staff seemed stressed, but they were nice to us. Voelkers is the epitome of the traditional WI supper club. Open Thurs evenings thru Sunday evenings, serving traditional supper club booze at the bar while one waits to be seated. Voelkers is not a big a restaurant and you may find yourself standing shoulder to shoulder at times in the bar but the atmosphere is good as these folks are our neighbors and friends. Where voelkers may not be the largest setting in the area, the food and service are larger than life. Traditional Friday nite fish fry, potato cakes, made to order steaks and seafood and a traditional salad bar to name a few. Go early because you might have to wait a bit. I wanted to try a new place for Friday night fish fry, got there about 5pm. The bartender told us that we could sit at the bar and add our name to the list. We where second on the list. The couple before us got seated and the people 3rd & 4th got seated. The bartender seemed confused and as we sat there we realized there was another list at the bar and with the dining room staff. After waiting to be seated for an hour and many people being seated,,,we left! I would have been happy to eat at the bar but she never came back to ask or see if we would like another drink.
