Toppers Tap — Restaurant in Beaver Dam

I ordered carry-out from Topper's Tap on October 4, shortly before 9:00 PM, while passing through town. I work for a hospital in Madison, have seen the destruction this pandemic is doing to everyone, and have been very cautious interacting with people in public since March of this year.

So you can imagine my fear and disappointment when I walked into Topper's wearing a mask and gloves and found myself in a small bar space that had over 12 people crammed inside, none wearing masks, none social distancing, many sitting at the bar elbow-to-elbow, and all talking excessively.

Patrons can't pay for carry-out orders in advance online, so I was required to step up to the bar, squeeze between two people on either side not wearing masks, and face the bartender (who was also not wearing a mask). I paid for my food and got the hell out. In 7 months I have not been exposed to that many people, particularly in so small a space. Picking up food on a whim turned out to be a dangerous endeavor.

I wear a mask so that I can protect you incase I have COVID---it is a consideration for my fellow human beings because, though I try to be safe, I can never be certain I am not infected. Again, the mask protects you, not me...Topper's Tap should be functioning with the same humanitarian considerations, or should close up permanently. I'm still tempted to call the health department on them. Given what I saw that night, I would be very surprised if one of those 12 bar patrons doesn't end up testing positive. It is also just as likely that one of them might die from it, as I saw a few people there who were clearly high-risk.

Doesn't matter how good the food is if the owners don't give a sh*t about the public's safety. I will never...

Hands down the best fish in town! We were looking for a good fish fry and friends suggested. Everyone was friendly and orders were prompt. We have since been there several times in the last few months and have always had great meals. Fabulous burgers too! So nice to be among great people after a horrible year. Don't live in fear! Get out and enjoy life! Stop at Toppers for fish, a burger, a crispy chicken salad, and apps! My kids say the chicken tenders are better than Culver's and coming from a 5&7 yo, that's the highest compliment!! Thank you for being awesome!...

Read good reviews on the Beaver Dam Facebook group about Toppers fish Fry. Picked up 3 take out orders of beer battered cod. It was terrible. The breading was extremely thick and worse yet burnt. My wife was smart to take off the breading and only eat the fish, I ate the breading and was sick the rest of the night. Wife wasn’t happy with no one, including the staff, not wearing masks. Won’t ever be going back...
