Palenque Mexican Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Beaver Dam

The inside of this restaurant is beautiful. There is plenty of seating and everything is very clean. I love how unique the inside looks.

The chips & salsa was good. I am sad to say I didn’t really enjoy my meal. The chicken burrito Jalisco I ordered wasn’t very good. The chicken was kind of dry and there wasn’t much flavor except for pepper and the very sweet & watery tomato sauce. I did enjoy the flavor of the cheese on top of the tortilla and I thought that was good though. Overall I was disappointed with my meal. I also could have swore that my meal also included rice & beans but I couldn’t find a menu online from the page I ordered off of so I could be incorrect. Some Mexican restaurants do charge extra and make you order them al la carte—so maybe that was the case. I just ended up not bringing it up because I usually don’t finish my rice & beans anyways.

Food was not good it all. It's edible but not enjoyable. My stepdaughter had the steak chimichangas and she said it tasted like the queso they poured over it was expired. My son had the "special dinner" and wasn't even able to eat the stuffed pepper because it was soggy and not cooked appropriately. My husband had the enchiladas juanitos and barely ate any because it was didn't have much flavor. Rice was okay but tastes like boxed Mexican rice. All of the food we had lacked flavor and was clearly not prepared correctly. My husband and I each had a michelada and they were terrible and tasted like they just poured beer into Bloody Mary mix. That's not how a michelada is made or is supposed to taste 🤦🏽‍♀️ On the bright side, my 7 year old loved her chicken tenders. Service wasn't good either. Seemed like they were irritated when I asked for water and even more irritated when I asked them to refill it. When my daughter asked for a refill of her soda she was ignored 3 times, then when her father asked for her refill, he had to ask twice because they forgot. Mariachis...

When the sign on door says "Enter at your own risk" they mean it & it isn't about covid, apparently!! Food poisoning for both of us that ate here. 24 hours of diarrhea & nausea for both of us after dining here, sadly. Great Coca Cola on bar tap is the only reason they even get the 1 star! I had carne asada tacos & he had cheese enchiladas, both meals had rice & beans. NO FLAVOR in any of the food or any of the salsas.. not the Rojo (red) or the verde (green)...bland isn't even the word. The rice had barely any color to it and was drier than the Sahara Desert..yuck. We only ate 1/2 of the food, if not less, cuz we were hungry but refused to-go containers cuz we'd rather they threw it out. If you like totally flavorless food that will have you on the toilet for the next 24 hours, please risk a visit.. otherwise, find somewhere else to eat. Decor here is phenomenal but their food...
