When it first opened years and years ago, House of Thai was owned and operated by two young and talented ladies from Thailand. Unfortunately, it's been owned by several different people since they sold, each with lower quality than the initial owners. But good news--it recently sold again, and to a woman who used to be chef at Thai Nine! When you walk in you'll notice a visible improvement in the décor--which is just one of the ways they hope to transform this from a primarily take-away restaurant to a place where people will dine in and enjoying a leisurely meal. But most importantly, they've started redoing recipes and the improvement is vast! To date our favorite updated recipe is Yellow Curry Chicken! The flavor is out of this world and the sauce has a creaminess we've never seen in any other dish we've had there, it's nothing short of outstanding! We've started working our way through the updated menu, but I suspect it'll be hard to beat that dish! If you haven't been here lately, don't let your opinions on the previous owner's food deter you from trying it again! My only word of caution is to underestimate the the 1-10 rating you request, as everything is Thai-spicy! We recommend that you ask your server which dishes have been reworked since the new ownership began. Those are the ones that are truly authentic and absolutely yummy! 8 February 2020: My husband and I have been married 39 years and I've never known him to eat duck. However, since this restaurant changed hands, he's eaten three different dishes made with duck here and has loved each. However, tonight's Basil Duck with Rice was probably his favorite judged by the fact that there was not one bite leftover! We couldn't be happier with the changes they've introduced and look forward to giving them our business every week for years to come! p.s. You'll be full at the end of your meal, but go ahead and order the sticky rice--you won't be sorry! It's one of the most amazing desserts I've ever had! 16 Feb 2020: The food on the orange plate included Pork Fried Rice, and Skewered Chicken Breasts with two dipping sauces (cucumber & vinegar, and peanut). Once again, everything was an absolute treat for the taste buds! 26 Feb 2020: The food on the green plate is Basil Stir Fry with House Basil Sauce, and it was really good! It had a different taste--kinda of earthy, but a very pleasant change that we'll order again! 6 January 2021: I almost hate to recommend to always ordering their Sticky Rice & Mango, because unless the mangoes are “just right,” Ma’am won’t serve them! But do it--ask for it every time--trust me, you'll be delighted when you get it!!!

I love that statement, "Don't judge a book by its cover", cause on the outside, it's like a pepto-bismol pink building that looked like a diner that had been painted over to stand out in the middle of a random corner, which they accomplished. You can't miss it. But the moment you step in, you're teleported to another place in the world. The ambiance is beautiful and gives a very cozy feel. When it comes to the service, the staff is very friendly. I will say that we must have come during a busy time (there were about 8 booths filled) or they were short staffed, but our waiter wasn't as attentive as I've experienced. I'm sure the person was very busy with other things on their mind. We ordered the Masaman Curry and the Tom Kha Soup as well as Boba. The Boba is owned by another company so you'll end up paying that separately. It was delicious and they offered non-dairy options which was a HUGE plus. The Masaman curry already came with potatoes and carrots. And they give you an option to choose your "meat". I chose extra veggies and asked for potatoes specifically. I guess my request was lost. 😒 cause it was 80% broth and like 3 potatoes. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious, especially with rice. The potatoes were super undercooked. So I took the rest home. Added more potatoes and tried to boil the potatoes they had and it still didn't soften up much. It was a bit strange. I'd rate the dish 8/10, cause the flavor was great. Total experience about 7/10. Unfortunately, my spouse mentioned that the chicken was really hard, but the broth was good. Both dishes were pretty small in comparison to other Thai places, but I have to admit, I was full. I think the price and the portion size matched. But if you were thinking you were going to get a big bowl of soup, just to keep that in mind. 😉

Overall, this was a good place for a good Thai meal. The atmosphere was great, and the staff was very friendly. However, there were a few things that made the experience feel a little “off”. First, we had three different servers help us at our table. One of the servers runs the boba tea bar, and she was very friendly. But we had to order our boba tea directly from her and pay for the boba teas separately from our dinner bill, which was strange - not bad, just strange. The boba teas were delicious, except for the tapioca boba pearls. Several of them weren’t chewy like they’re supposed to be. Instead, they were hard, causing us to have to spit them out, which was a little unsettling. Next, we had two other servers constantly rotating at our table, so we never truly knew who our server actually was. Sometimes they would both come at different times and ask the same questions, so it was obvious the two servers weren’t communicating with each other fully in terms of what they were doing for each table. My Thai Spicy Stir Fry with Tofu was delicious. However, my husband said his Tofu Yellow Curry tasted “off”, almost “fishy”. He said it felt like his curry vegetables were boiled in fish broth or something similar because the curry just didn’t taste right. That definitely wasn’t great since we are vegetarians. So, overall, we would go back to this restaurant. We probably wouldn’t get the tapioca boba pearls if we got the boba tea again and my husband wouldn’t get the curry. But we would go back because the good things were really good.

Horrible customer service! The kitchen messed up my order not once but TWICE. First time we went we order panang curry level 3 and pepper steak level 5. When we got the orders the spicy levels were switched. I called in and the front desk was so nice and gave a free meal next time we come in. All was good. Went in today and I order level 5 pepper steak after I got home I found it was a type of broccoli beef with nuts sprinkled on top. I called in to let her know what happened and the manager Eve begins to talk to another employee about my order telling me it's the pepper steak sauce. I said I just wanted the pepper steak meal that I didn't ask for this. She proceeded to argue with me. Then brings up my previous order that it's not their fault if it was too spicy. She's not listening that the spicy was fine they just accidentally switched which spicy went to which. The entire phone call consisted of her arguing with me and cutting off every time I try to explain. Very rude! She said I was just trying to get free food and then let me know I wasn't welcome there anymore. Cannot believe how unprofessional she was. As the manager you would expect more but she was a nightmare. Then she threatened that she would be talking to the other girl because she never should gave given me a free meal coupon. Poor girl. I gave up and hung up. I will never order there again! Location and up keep of the building is looking terrible as well. Eve you are rude!! Get a clue young lady. Update: Tried to eat the food and after one bite of broccoli I found a long grey hair. Hoped it was from food but it was definitely...
