This place was overpriced and not worth it. The only thing this place has going for them is the view, building, and all around aesthetic. It's beautiful.
Vino lovers and foodies alike, sorry to disappoint you...the food and the pairing of flavors just didn't work well. We spent $400 and still gave 25% gratuity, but we properly tip everywhere we dine even if it was disappointing. Also, we account for inflation. We will try to give every place a true try.
We started with 2 orders of the wings. The sauce was very fishy, almost bonito flavored? Perfectly fried, but the sauce was just off-putting. My table was 50/50 on this dish. The croquette's romesco sauce was bitter, not sweet, garlicky, smoky, or had any spice like it should. The croquettes themselves needed salt. The roasted beet & blueberry salad was such a small portion for $15, I thought it would've been enough to share. Although, it was the only decent thing we had. I loved the blueberry and beets with briar rose cheese combo.
We also got the bottle of Amaterra Pinot Nior '18...no character, needed to breathe, and even after, it was too acidic. For the "fine dining" prices... you'd expect upscale service. They make you pay $25 just to make a reservation there. Where was the decanter? They didn't even let us try the wine to say we were ok with the selection either!
Service: I don't name servers because that's rude/messed up and usually it's not their fault (typically its kitchen issues with new staff or poor chef skills, under staffing, management...etc etc) or maybe they're just going through a tough time or tough day, but our server...............her attitude, her lack of suggestions, her energy, her demeanor. Like, sometimes a place is so bad, but the server makes up for it, but she just drove it further into the ground. Hahahahah I can't explain to you the way we were guided into our experience...because there was no such thing, she didn't even try. She was no better than cheap diner service and even then, I've had better service at a diner. She didn't remove our appetizer plates, bring us new plates, or change our silverware?? She was never anywhere to be found. Never once came by to check on table.
For dinner, 4 of us ordered 8150 "smash" burger....and I put smash in parenthesis because it was not a smash burger by any means. They were thick, like a normal burger patties. You couldn't taste the red current jam. The brioche bun was nicely toasted! It could've been cooked less. Everyone we dined with looked at the menu and said, "nothing sounds good" so they decided to play it safe w/the burger, which probably was what I should have done. The fries were steakhouse style but were waaaayyyy took salty. Like, you needed a sip of water for every bite!
I ordered the halibut...uhm, it was dry. It wasn't flaky. The tomato sauce...awful. Didn't taste like anything, not even tomato, not acidic or bright and fresh. The dish just consists of the fish with the sauce, I got maybe 3 slices of zucchini, haha My sister ordered the spiced pork osso buco, and the molƩ was SO salty that it took over the main flavor of the dish as mole is already a strong flavor, but it took away the sweetness mole is supposed to have, and any flavor they may have had. Essentially, the hominy or rapini was lost in the sauce.
We went there to end our day from birthday wine tasting, hoping to enjoy good wine and dinner. It was lackluster service and food. Nothing unique or something to write home about besides the beauty of the building. I will definitely not give it a second try, as the ambiance was not welcoming and the staff was not knowledgeable about their food and wine. For a place that nice, they need to hire a whole new team to manage it and give it a proper wine program, better service training, higher standards for server knowledge and experience, and an entire new food menu. It has so much potential to be a great place, and the location is also enticing, but it just wasn't what it should be.
Pass on this place, we have plenty of other restaurants...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreScallop Entree/food poisoning/ poor service recovery: Last Saturday I had invited a friend for dinner, I had been a handful of times with friends and family, Great atmosphere, views, and wineā¦however now that Iāve eaten dinner a few times , overall the food hasnāt been consistent. Unfortunately I believe there was a food poisoning issue with my friend and I last week, and the service recovery was disappointing and surprising. We both had the scallop entree and a glass of chardonnay. My friend and I were not ill before going to dinner. I wondered if my dish was off while eating, it was warm but not hot, but i wasnāt sure. My stomach began to hurt during dinner but I didnāt have a reason to suspect it was the food, until we ended dinner and I became very nauseated on my way to my car. Driving separately, I later found out both of us did not make it home without getting sick. I barely made it down the hill from the restaurant without throwing up, I had to pull over at St. Vincentās. I couldnāt believe it when my friend contacted me once she got home and told me she also couldnāt make it home without stopping because she was sick. We are both RNās and have an understanding of what is an unhealthy response to a meal. I called the restaurant to report this, concerned others could have the same issue w the scallop entree.
Their response was that they purchase high quality scallops, and no one else has reported issues, but a manager would call each of us.
A manager Jeff, called 3 days later, told me the same thing about the quality and their proper care of the scallops and that no others reported this problem. There was no apology or concern expressed for the fact that my friend and I were sick all of Saturday night (fortunately ok by Sunday afternoon). I told him I was really disappointed because I liked coming there.
He then said, ā What do you want?ā. I replied that I wanted consideration for the fact that we spent our Saturday nights very ill, which wasnāt on my agenda for the weekend. I suggested it would be nice to receive a gift certificate? (though what I really wanted was validation and an apology, which wasnāt offered). He told me heād reimburse us for our scallop meals, and he said heād contact my friend.
It has been a week and Amaterra has not contacted my friend and did not reimburse me as Jeff offered. We considered reporting to the health department and we should, but wanted to also be understanding that this is a new restaurant and give them a chance to acknowledge there was a problem and correct it. Itās been a week without an acceptable response so Iām writing this review. Itās concerning that there was no assurance that they would look into the cause of what made us ill , as they refused to acknowledge we were ill from these meals. I have friends who are members and go there frequently, no one should have to deal with what I did last Saturday night and then receive responses like this. The service recovery does not stand up to what Amaterra...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeautiful location but by far the worst service I've experienced at a winery, especially for the price we paid. I made a reservation for 8 guest (the maximum allowed) for my birthday. The reservation was at noon, I told my guest 12:30pm. I was running 10 minutes late so I called to let them know that I was still coming but just a few minutes late, they said it was no problem. When I got there at 12:10pm the host let me know that it would be just a minute as they still needed to push 2 tables together. Keep in mind they had just opened and were not very busy. My guest arrived at 12:30pm and all 8 of us were still standing there waiting to be seated, we were not sat until 12:45! 45 minutes into our reservation, that's ridiculous. On top of that the other noon reservation that came in after me was seated right away. After being seated our waitress told us that we all needed to order at the same time to make her job easier for her, she told us they had no bottles of white wine for my guest to order and they don't drink reds, she couldn't serve my 2 non wine drinker guest a cocktail since it wasn't dinner time even though we ordered 4 charcuterie boards (very small portions for the high price) and she didn't even inform us what non alcoholic drinks were available for one of my guest who couldn't drink alcohol so all they got to have was warm water. I ordered a flight of wine and when she brought it to me she just set it down and walked away, absolutely no explanation of what I was getting like every other winery I've ever been to has done. Sure the menu has the flavors listed but from my past experiences they usually inform you about the grapes used, region it's from, the soil used, the aging processes used, history of the winery, ect. but I left there with absolutely no knowledge of this winery at all. One of my guest asked if it was possible to order a dessert for me since it was my birthday but again told no because it wasn't dinner time, fine but then the waitress didn't even care to wish me a happy birthday or anything, not personable at all! After that the waitress was MIA for the next HOUR! All of our glasses were dry, we literally could have just walked out. When she finally came back we asked for the check and if she could take a group photo for us when one of my guest came back from the restroom, we paid and she said she'd be right back to take the photo and never came back so we had to ask someone at the table next to us if they would take the photo for us. I fully expected that I would be offering my guest a great experience and that's not at all what it was so I am incredibly...
