So I haven't posted a Yelp review in years... my experience was so bad I downloaded the app and reset my password just to write this review.
I wanted to write the whole story but it was too long. So here are the bullet points:
Quoted 45mins for a wait to be seated, took almost an hour. Cut through the restaurant and patio multiple times, it was not even half full but had multiple tables that sat unbussed. There was no reason we couldn't be seated
Once seated, server came once to take our orders, once to deliver our drink orders, then was never seen again
Drink order delivered was incomplete and we never got a chance to get the rest of our order cause they never came back
We were sat in the patio, only half to capacity, other tables left empty and full of dirty dishes. Never was bussed while we were there
Whole tables remained dirty, attracting flies, there was a group of 4-5 servers hanging out inside chatting and laughing. I'm all for taking some breaks but none of the wait staffed cared to check in on tables or cleaning
Family behind us kept going to the cafe to get items for their children cause the server was MIA
waited about 40 mins for food that never came, and sever never came back. When my husband asked about food ETA, they said 5mins. We left after 7
my toddler son never got his juice and cried when we left cause he wanted to eat. Don't worry, momma had his favorite snacks for him but he wanted to eat a proper meal.
So we put our name in at arrival around 10:30A and left around 12:30pm, no food, no plants, just a whole lot of disappointment.
To CFC management/ownership, instead of trying to turn profit with more tables, get experienced kitchen staff to turn orders quicker, and get experienced wait staff who will at least use some of their downtime for bussing or talking to their customers.
Happy ending, we ended up at my son's favorite taco cart, but we wasted the day at Cornell Farms. I don't even think I'll come back for plants cause...
Read moreI have eaten at Cornell Farms Cafe 4 times. Twice before the pandemic and twice after. The two times in the past, it was very good. The two times in the last year have been awful! Awful to the point that I did not even eat a quarter of my meal. Their meals are not inexpensive, so it's very disappointing to get such poorly cooked food that is actually good quality. I got the brisket breakfast and the brisket was not cooked correctly, the potatoes were underdone and the egg was soupy that was supposed to be over easy. Somehow they managed to cook the yolk but not the egg whites. As someone who cooks a lot, I don't even know how you manage that... I was having to spit the brisket into my napkin each time I got a bite of it. I finally gave up and got a to go container to take my meal home to my dog.
The restaurant is also very dirty. I wanted to place my purse on the floor but it was so dirty I hung it from the back of the chair. We were seated in the inside area...It looked like it hadn't been swept in a month.
My latte was good. But the meal was awful! I'm also confused that they don't allow reservations anymore. But they have reserved tables? When I was seated I asked if I could get the window seat and they said it was reserved... Yet they say they don't take reservations? So is it only the elite that get to get reservations and tables by the window these days? I guess working class people do not get the luxury of a good seat in their restaurant? I know this is a very posh nursery but I did spend $30 on a meal, drink and tip and then spent over $200 in the nursery. But I'm not worthy of a window seat?
I will say, the staff at Cornell Farms is always very friendly! Which I do appreciate! I will still be visiting the nursery but I don't know if I'll be able to give the cafe another try. $30 is a lot to throw down the drain for a meal I couldn't eat. Now I have to go home and make myself something to eat after what I hoped would be a...
Read moreWe do love to come here. It's kind of hard to schedule for us, so it's really a treat when we can get a table. Food is always Fantastic and there is great attention to detail and discipline and creativity in the kitchen. (Previous chef, here) Sometimes the service is "interesting" though... Today we were seated by a very introverted young gal with free flowing hair who didn't seem to really like people at all. We were then waited on by a nice young man (also with hair askew) in an undershirt. No criticism of free spirited wardrobe, (it is Oregon) but as someone who has worked in the industry for 30+ years, at least full clothing and hair back off the shoulders is still recommended. Server was nice enough, got the eggs wrong (maybe kitchen thing?) but fixed it even when I told him it was ok. Once served though, we saw hide not hair of him until we left. We asked another gal when we needed something and that was fine. When asking for and trying to get the other gals attention though, the introverted host was bussing the table next to us and heard us trying to politely summon her. "Excuse me, miss" She turned and stated at us like we had 10 heads... No words, or motion to help, just kind of glaring at us. She was pretty attitudinal (not sure that's a word) to the incoming customers as well. I know it's Saturday and busy, but a smile on your face and in your voice goes along way to keep customers when you cannot provide them with a sitting. She kept saying that she could help anyone because they were awaiting more staff to arrive. Even with reservations, she was telling people it would be a half hour to 45 minutes or more. Again, been there. Short staffed sucks. I get it, but why not start with a full staff? Anyway. We do really enjoy it there, as I said, food is always Fantastic. As we were leaving, maybe the boss showed up, as 4 staff members seemed to have all of a sudden put their hair up! I'm sure OSHA and the health dept...
