When we visited Portland we were surprised to find the highest rated Persian restaurant was a food stand, but this place was amazing! The koobide and jooje (chicken) were so delicious, and the rice! Restaurants sometimes don't put a lot of effort into their rice but this was just delicious delicious polo! Our food came with a side of Shirazi salad and herbed yogurt, which were also really good. There was garlic in the yogurt which I'm not too keen on but I guess a lot of people like. The proprietor was really friendly and cool, I saw him chatting up a few of his regulars (most of them not Iranian, actually) while I was there. You could tell the place was loved. Beside the food, the area was also really pleasant with great aesthetics. There was a little courtyard between all the different food trucks with really nice wooden benches and umbrellas for shade. I wish we had places like that in Santa Barbara. Overall a really great experience, if I lived in this city this would be my...
Read moreI've waited to make my review because I'm struggling to find the words to describe our experience here. The food was amazing! It takes a lot to impress my husband because he's worked in the food industry and is also an amazing cook. At first bite of falafel, we were both surprised at how moist and delicious it was, not dry like all the other places serve. Then came our Vazirie plate which comes with saffron rice, roasted tomatoes (I'd never had before and they were delicious), jujeh kabob (chicken) was so flavorful, kubideh kabob was so tender and flavorful too. I ate most of the kubideh while my husband ate the saffron rice and jujeh. All of the food was so delicious we couldn't stop talking about it for hours. We even joked about going back for dinner the same day. The person working appears to possibly be the owner based on the excellent customer service and quality of the food. We most definitely will drive 20 minutes to eat here...
Read moreCame here for a Friday dinner, lots of parking and space available to dine in. You walk in to the counter to order first before seating. We got the falafel for starter. Falafel looks like thin patties and very tender, crispy, with the inside still moist. Really great!! Came with a hummus like dip that was addicting.
For our entree we got the Vazirie Kabob which is kubideh kabob and jujeh (chicken) Kabob with saffron rice, grilled tomatoes, and a small maste khiar (yogurt sauce). Chicken was so juicy and fluffy ; I think it was even breast meat so even more impressive. Kubideh was so juicy as well, which my husband gobbled up happily. Overall, seasoned well and we added more sumac just for luck.
FYI The saffron rice did not have any raisins. The rice was heaven for me, I was basically inhaling it that I had to drink water to not choke myself lol.
We look forward to coming back to try more things including their...
